I have a problem with translating a typical french proverb into proper english. So I was wondering:

Is there an english proverb or an english equivalent for "c'est comme chercher une aiguille dans une botte de foin" (er..."trying to find a needle in a haysack" is the closest I could come with)?

I can't read the French, so I can't help with the direct English translation. But "like trying to find a needle in a haystack" is the correct wording of that American phrase.
