Since today seems to be plot bunny giveaway day, I thought I'd join in the fun. Not sure if I've posted this idea before or not, because I love it so much that it's rolled around in the back of the brain for a while.

What if the reason Lois is always seen dangling over the jaws of death is because she was never supposed to survive the colonist explosion in the pilot? Clark's last minute rescue interfered with some cosmic event where Lois Lane was meant to die. The universe demands her death, how could Clark ever stop it?

No particular direction on this one, just some vague, concepty stuff.

What if Clark isn't just from another planet, but another universe as well, so everything he does--every rescue, every major or minor intervention--is "wrong" as far as the timeline is concerned? Clark vs. a universe...

This is almost starting to sound like a Flash story: Flash vs. the Speed Force. I wonder if Clark and Barry could team up?
