Suppose that in the L&C 'Verse, some articles appeared in "US" , & "People" magazines linking Superman and Lois Lane.

A couple of Kidnappers grab Lois to use against Superman.

Clark decides to publicly distance Superman from Lois Lane by talking to the press all around the world.

And Clark makes sure that it is noticeable that most if not all of his regular press contacts in dozens of cities around the globe besides being competent and well respected as reporters are

  • Female
  • Under 30
  • unmarried
  • sexy

How would this effect Lois? Her crush on the superhero? Events in the first and second season?

Suppose that instead of kissing Lois Lane goodbye as he set out to stop the Nightfall asteroid he kissed Polly Perkins or Vicki Vale ?

(Polly Perkins, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, is a New York City newspaper reporter for "The Chronicle" in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow )

(Vicki Vale, played by Kim Basinger, was a prize-winning photo journalist who attempted to uncover the secret of the Batman in the 1989 movie.)

You could even go one step more and have Superman avoid Lois Lane completely.

This is based on an idea from Superman Returns fanfic that I can not recall the name of.

In the fic it was Lois Lane's idea to protect her son by making her well known relationship with Superman fade into the background.

A number of SR fanfics use (including mine) have Lois attempting to establish her (alleged) relationship with Supes as old news. dance

The only problem with this is that Superman *never* initiates a kiss with Lois. Lois kissed him both times they kissed. If he wants to put more space between Superman and Lois by inviting another reporter beyond the press section (as Lois did in ASU) or seen kissing another woman after he was supposedly dosed by Revenge, wouldn't this make it more difficult for Lois to a) believe that Clark loves her beyond everyone else (once she learns his secret) and b) forgive him once she learns his secret.

Good point, so we change that to instead of being kissed by Lois Lane as he set out to stop the Nightfall asteroid he was kissed by Polly Perkins or Vicki Vale?

Yes, exactly!

Even more fun, Superman does not talk to any reporters in Metropolis until Linda King joins the staff of the Star, then he talks to her.

If Clark makes it clear that he loves Lois, I do not think things will be too bad. However I could see this as being a very big problem causer if he allows SM to be seen to have an actual relationship with another reporter.

This is a very challenging concept, especially considering Polly Perkins only has eyes for her flyboy Joe.

In my Supergirl Returns series Lois and Clark took care not to be the first to interview Linda on her return to Earth - they made sure that they couldn't be there when she was available, and got Cat Grant to do it instead. They also made sure that Linda wasn't around in Metropolis until several months after Supergirl reappeared, to avoid a repeat of the "Superman appears the same day Clark arrives" association.

One reporter you've overlooked, though a little older - Sarah Jane Smith. She's born in 1951 in Doctor Who canon, so about 46 when Superman first appears, and specialises in weird science, aliens, etc. so probably a natural for an interview.

I have her as a friend of Clark's family in my series, though I've never explained it she probably found out who he was using her alien technology, and decided to help occasionally with alibis etc.

I join you in mourning her fairly recent passing.
