Ellen is often portrayed as a dry drunk, the type of person who is just barely dry but certainly not sober and growing.

How about a story where Ellen is trying to work her ninth step? Growing, changing, being more than simply dry?

How could her attempts to make amends interact with L&C and Clark's other role?

You know I think there are a couple of fics that have used that in them already - maybe not as the total basis for the story, but I remember a repentant Ellen going through AA in a couple from a couple years ago...
