Tempus switches Lois Lane from two nearly identical universes.

Their life history is so close that he can switch them and they don't NOTICE.

The switch happens just days before Clark Kent arrives at the Daily Planet.

Since the wrong Lois Lane meets each Clark Kent that instant soulmate attraction is not there.

As a result
  • Clark still covers the theater story and gets hired by Perry.
  • Lois Lane and Clark Kent become partners
  • and friends,
  • her chance remark still causes him to create Superman
  • Clark is not as hostile towards Lex Luthor from the start and is able to detach and act more adult
  • Lois is more accepting of Clark's concerns about Luthor
  • Together they bring Luthor down
  • Without the bond Lois is not as instantly accepting of Superman.

I'd read it, but I'd definitely want to see what happens in the other universe.

Just need to get someone to write it. And it could start at any point after the switch. Have a prologue with the switch and pickup three or four years later.

It could start sometime down the road with Lois noticing something that IS VERY different.

Say in one Universe Ellen Lane has been in recovery for years and works as a RN in a medical detox such as Portland's Hooper Center. In the other she is hit or miss, some dry periods and lots of wet ones.

I think that would be too noticeable for Lois.

How about a date? Like her parent's anniversary or something. It would just come up in a conversation. Lois knew her real parents anniversary for certain, so that might set off alarm bells. Then, if there was other clues available, like different houses when she was young, she could start to realize something was wrong.

As long as it's not Lois & Clark go to San Francisco for a story and she sees that the Golden Gate Bridge is blue...

Anyway, I look forward to reading it if it gets written...

I think Sliders did that years ago.

They did. That was my weird idea of humor. Sorry.

It could be a number of different things all coming together slowly.

Ever passed by some place and you would have sworn under oath that it was not there a few days ago?
