Okay, I just discovered this today, so I apologize if you guys already know about it. It's hilarious!

Here's a Link to the first one.

Current ones: JL8 - a Webcomic

Warning: Clark likes Diana in this strip, but I figure he's a kid, he has time to get more mature tastes. wink <<Like Lana, she's just a phase he's going through>>

If anyone knows who the blonde girl "Karen" is, could you please enlighten me. Thanks.

Um.... okay. That explains the comment I read where someone said "she's his cousin". I'm like WHEN did WW become Superman's cousin? LOL. blush

It's funny that they call SuperGirl, Powergirl in that other dimension (would that be the other dimension where Clark actually married Lois back in the 70s?) because I just read a comic from the late 1950s where Lois dreamed of getting Superman's powers (blood transfusion) and called herself "Powergirl". And then she helped Clark out by giving him a blood transfusion (it's a DREAM, I'll remind you) and he called himself "PowerMan", but he was inept hero.

Well, I guess this just means that Justice League needs to recruit some more women in their ranks. I nominate Ultra Woman! Anyone second? wink Hee-hee. Wouldn't that put a damper on Superman's relationship with WW?

This is great! I just read 25 of them all at once. I can see this becoming a new addiction.

rotflol I remember this one. It's funny. laugh

I initially found this comic posted onto someone else's website, but there was a lot of other images on there (not all kid appropriate) so I searched until I found the legit page.

I wonder if Karen knows she's Clark's cousin. Probably after Diana starts dating Bruce and Bruce starts his self-regime of cootie-shots to endure it. laugh

(I moved this from the Wrong Clark thread to where it will be helpful to more people). The above link is to the missing #16 comic.

This is the newest comic I've added to my "read every day" list and joins Love and Capes, Dilbert, and Calvin. While I've thoroughly enjoyed the comic, in the three weeks I've been reading it I've found the update/publish schedule to be all over the map. I notice that instead of "Updates on Monday and Thursday", today it says "Updates about twice a week".

Can't do anything about it, just venting.

Yeah, that's frustrating, but like the rest of us, I'm sure the artist/writer has RL issues that get in the way, especially since it's basically a fancomic. sad I, too, have found JL8 very addicting.

BTW, I've found that this site displays the images in a much more legible fashion. (They're higher resolution, and can be made large enough to read clearly.)

That does bring up a good point. For example, in L&C how did Clark know it was safe for him to swallow a bomb in the Pilot.
Posted By: VirginiaR Re: JL8 Comic - 05/14/13 09:09 AM
I just read this and thought it might apply to Lois as well. It captures so well Clark's character. clap

When I saw Diana hit Clark with the sword, I was a bit surprised that it didn't cut him. I thought it might be a magic sword, like the one she had in Kingdom Come. I can't find a picture to link to, but at one point Superman and Wonder Woman are sitting in space chatting, and he is admiring her sword and manages to cut his hand on it. She comments that he was always vulnerable to magic. I figured in this comic Clark would get a little cut and be surprised about it. I like what he says about there not being many people who attack 8-year-olds with swords.

I use the direct link to JL8\'s Tumbler page . Hope that helps. Although it still says "updated twice a week", it's more like once and very random at that.

hyper Things are looking up!

frown He'll only be posting once a week now.
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: JL8 Comic - 06/30/13 03:37 PM
One a week is better than none a week. And things will definitely be getting interesting now. (Not that they weren't before, but what can I say? IMHO, Clark belongs with LL, NOT WW...One of the reasons I haven't gotten very much into the New 52. I saw that there will actually be a new Superman/Wonder Woman comic book series coming out.)

Joy,
Lynn

p.s., I loved the nod to John Byrne -- the person who is most responsible for the Superman universe upon which Lois & Clark was based -- in the strip.

I really like JL8 but I hate suspense. Let me rephrase that...I hate continuing suspense. In small doses it's OK. I can only stand so much parsing a story piece by piece before I go all cat .

At one a week I'm going to have to lay off until there's a decent chunk of strips to read again. There's always refuge in LnC, though. wink

Then you'll be happy to note that the artist said he'd be doing more stand alone strips. (Actually, what he said was "more episodic / stand alone strips" which *could* mean more multiple pages on one day. I'd be okay with that too. wink )
Posted By: Shallowford Re: JL8 Comic - 07/03/13 10:26 AM
Virginia,

I hadn't read that. Thanks.

Actually, this brings up a point I'd like to ask in general. I read pretty quickly but I can only keep 3-4 things with "plots" going at any time. I mean, I'm OK reading a long story on the Archive, a (unrelated) novel when I'm away from the computer, maybe some short stories and a few comics. As things become less unrelated I start mixing things up, forgetting character names, have to re-read to get back into the situation and basically it stops being fun. Some of you write multiple stories concurrently, read stories as they're posted, Beta for other stories and keep a shelf full of plot bunnies on the side. HOW?

I'd like to hear everyone's answers--Virginia has copied this question to "Keeping Focus" in the Fanfic Related thread. Please reply there.

Thanks again Virginia.

smile1 Lois has showed up. You can not do a proper story involving Clark Kent unless you have Lois show up. The sooner the better.

Yes, it's The Joker and Toyman. There's a graphic novel that shows Joker's (possible) origin where he was wearing a red hood while pulling heists as initiation to some mob or something. JL8 #50 also describes the kid in the red hoodie as a clown.

You can get at least one T-shirt based on the strip:

https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/453222-super-childish?store_id=123878
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: JL8 Comic - 07/22/17 11:36 AM
I wonder what the legalities are with that shirt... I suspect that the JL8 artist is only allowed to do his thing because he hadn't been making any money from Warner Bros and DC Comics' licensed characters. (I wrote "hand't been" because he now has a Patreon account. I'm not sure how that work legally, either.) I am also guessing that the purveyor of the T-shirt is probably not that comic strip creator and might not have permission from either him or DC Comics to use these characters.
Posted By: Deadly Chakram Re: JL8 Comic - 07/22/17 02:59 PM
Lynn - that's not entirely true. Yale does the convention circuit and sells prints of his work. His web comic is free, but he is making money off prints.

http://yalestewart.bigcartel.com/

I own "We Will Be Giants" (Just Clark and Bruce, I bought it before he did the entire Justice League) and the Superman/Batman Jim Lee Parody.

Maybe he has permission after all, if he's able to sell some of his work?
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: JL8 Comic - 07/22/17 05:49 PM
DC, you're right; thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about the convention circuits. And I know the "We Will be Giants" artwork; I've seen it on his website and I really like it. I'm not familiar with his Jim Lee parody.

I'm not sure what his legal standing is, but even if he is allowed to use the DC characters, I wonder whether the person selling T-shirts is allowed to use Yale's interpretation of those characters. (I'm not saying that they aren't allowed, just that I don't know either way.) I guess if they aren't allowed, someone will shut them down soon.

- Lynn
Posted By: Deadly Chakram Re: JL8 Comic - 07/23/17 01:49 AM
Hi Lynn!

This is the link to the parody: http://yalestewart.bigcartel.com/product/batman-superman-jim-lee-parody-11-x17

I would venture to guess that the shirt maker doesn't have Yale's permission to use his interpretation of his characters. But I can't say for certain, obviously. It wouldn't surprise me if the shirt eventually gets shut down. (I know Yale recently posted about someone using a drawing of his for a purpose he didn't intend on Facebook.)
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: JL8 Comic - 07/23/17 02:07 AM
Hi DC,

Thanks for the link. I had seen that image before, but I hadn't forgotten that it was a parody of another piece of artwork.

I had thought to contact Yale to ask him about the t-shirt, but I don't want to create a Tumblr account to do so. (This site and fanfiction.net are as close I want to get to a social media site.)

I guess time will tell.

- Lynn
Posted By: Deadly Chakram Re: JL8 Comic - 07/23/17 04:21 AM
Lynn - I don't blame you. I don't want/need a tumblr account either. I do Facebook and have a Twitter account, but I don't feel comfortable contacting Yale about the shirt.
Posted By: VirginiaR Re: JL8 Comic - 07/25/17 04:32 PM
I used to follow Yale and the writer of Love & Capes (Thom Zahler) back when I was on FB. One of them made mention of some illegal merchandise using pirated artwork (I can't recall which one). He was very appreciative of being informed of it and was able to send out notice to his fans not to buy it.

I'm sure Yale would love to verify if the t-shirt is authentic or not, as nobody likes having their work stolen. Would you like it if DC comics made a movie/comic out of one of your stories without at least crediting you? If it is authentic, then I'm sure he'd love to opportunity to toot his own horn and say "Yes, please buy it!" I've found these artists as friendly as the writers on these boards.

However, I understand if you'd be uncomfortable approaching Dean or Teri to tell them how much you loved them on L&C:TNAoS, then I can understand you being hesitant posting to Yale. Perhaps another reader on the boards can take up the cause for you. smile

It's a cute t-shirt/picture either way. I'd just hate for someone to have pirated his artwork without him being compensated for it.
