I'm pretty much into knotting friendship bracelets. This is not really interesting as such, but I managed to design one with the familiar red-and-yellow S-shield on blue ground. If anybody is interested in copying that work, I'll gladly share the design.

Dare I ask what a friendship bracelet is?

...am I that old? LOL

Oh Olympe! I remember friendship bracelets! goofy

You managed to make a Superman one? How cool!

I'm impressed, Mellie. clap I've stopped making them years ago. Okay, that's not entirely true, I've made them to be able to seperate my bag from other's. I'd love to get a copy of this one, though I'm not entirely sure if I still have got enough blue, red and yellow.

What a great, crazy idea. I've always tried to knot something more interesting, than rows and rhombs. I wasn't bad at it, but not that good.

For Lara and all the other's who don't know what a friendship bracelet is... It's a bracelet you give your friends laugh

Okay, now I'm serious. It's a bracelet you knot with several strings of yarn. Yarn might not bet he right word, but I'm too tired to go looking for a better one. It's thicker than yarn, and usually used for embroidery. I'm not going into technical details.

However, girls give them their best friends. It was quite popular here when I was a teenager, but I saw someone making them when I still went to primary school.

I don't think you are too old, Lara. When Im not completely mistaken, my mother told my that they had something similiar when she was still in school.

Well, whoever wants to try it should have experience with the technique. The pattern is rather complicated and involves no less than 37 threads. (I would recommend adding another one, though.)

37 threads? Hey, that's perfect for me - that's how old I am. ROFL

I've never had one of those. If you say it's not cause I'm too old, should I take it to mean that I have no friends? hehehe!

Nice work, Mellie! smile

Well, I got exactly one. From a girl I taught how to make them. But there were times where I used to wear a dozen of my own making.

These are what you're talking about, right?

At my local crafts store the thread is called embroidary thread or floss. (Hmm. Never realized I didn't know how to spell embroidary before. I'm almost postive that's not right.)

I haven't made them in years. I was never really good at them but I liked doing it. I still like to look at all the pretty colors of thread at Joann's. Never do anything with them, of course!

ETA: Just saw that Mellie already had a pic. Oh, well, now there's two. Of course hers has the pretty S-shield. smile

You bet. And it's mine. All mine. laugh I am SO EXCITED!

It's embroidery, Lisa.

Well, since our talk about that Superman bra sort of inspired me to try it...

I've moved this from Off Topic into here, Olympe because this is where all the creative stuff goes. It's not just for music vids. laugh

And this definitely counts as something creative. Very cute, too!

Nah, it's not an old thing LOL. I had no idea what one was either. Granted, I grew up playing on the guys' soccer team, so weren't exactly giving each other bracelets.

Hehe! I played baseball with the guys. And played Dungeons & Dragons, with the guys. In fact, I'm a *major* geek, so I've always just been one of the guys. And when guys give bracelets, it's about as close as you get to a marriage proposal around these parts, so yeah... never got one. *lol*

I have 2 little plastic bracelet thingies. You know, colored things, one I bought to support breast cancer research and it's pink... The other is a pale blue color and... ahhhh... I bought that on my trip to Graceland. blush

Wow, that's absolutely cool.

I soooooo envy you - I've never been good with these things. I also tried it some years ago when there was this hype around these Scooby Doo thread thingies but it didn't last long wink

Well, Jana, this technique is very different from the one you use with those Scooby Doos. Besides, you need even more patience for this one than for those plastic thingies.
