In the interest of research; what's your Zodiac sign, FoLCs? Is there a prevalent one among us? Do we have more extroverted Leos than introverted Cancers? More creative Libras than pragmatic Capricorns?

Even if you don't believe in (Western) astrology, just answer with your birthdate. smile I don't really believe in it, myself, but I have some friends who do so I have an interest in observing how often it comes true. laugh

I'm presuming we're working to the traditional set of zodiac signs and not the new ones the 'experts' recalculated just recently? laugh

Heh, yes! I've included the dates for each sign.

As far as I remember, the new set had made its first debut several years ago, but it doesn't seem to be catching on. goofy

Aries RULE! dance dance dance
What is "Western" astrology? I've never heard it called that, but I presumed that's what we have in the States. As opposed to "Eastern", Arabian? or what? We read for amusement mostly, but never take it for direction.
Cute Poll!

Yes, Western Astrology is the system I've used here, and which you are familiar with. There's also the Chinese astrology (based on year of birth), Hindu astrology, and probably more. I know little to nothing about them. blush

Western is the traditional system used in Europe and North America. Vedic is Indian, Chinese is, of course, Chinese. There are also some off-shoots and modernized archaic (or purely invented) types that have come into vogue - Celtic and Mayan to name two.

The thirteen signs were introduced back when I was in college, so it's hardly new. And periodically there's a push to bring the 'signs' into alignment with their 'constellations', but since the 'signs' are actually geometric/mathematical constructs that don't correspond with the constellations and haven't for generations, it doesn't much matter what the so-called experts say.

All signs in the Western zodiac are determined from the vernal equinox - when the Sun crosses the equator heading north.

For me, the push to redraw the zodiac is on the lines of not liking varying lengths of months so pushing for 30 day months with a couple odd extra days thrown in - oh, wait, that's what the 31 day months are all about.

With regard to months, I'm just happy only February has 28 days (cheers for leap year) because every month would have the same calendar and every Monday would be the same day. So totally boring! Amazingly to me, people don't register the fact that March has the same date pattern as February! (Non leap year, of course).
Yes, I should have realized I knew the Chinese Zodiac. Our local Chinese restaurants have placemats with the "Year of the Rat" etc on them.
huh

For anyone who thinks the current astrology nonsense is new...

The author eerily predicted the current kerfuffle 33 years ago!!!!

However, if you scroll down a little you'll find out what was really happening in the second review.

Not to get into a discussion on the merits of astrology and will all due apologies to anyone around here with a degree in psychology or sociology - but quite frankly, most psychology and sociology has about as much 'scientific' merit as astrology - they make broad claims with little or no rigorously reproducible results and little, if any, non-anecdotal evidence for their more popular claims and any evidence there is can be interpreted in so many ways as to make it non-evidence.

And then there are the behaviorists... peep

I share Superman's sign...but I like Chinese astrology better.

My birthday is February 18, the cusp of Aquarius, so I'm supposed to share some of the qualities of a Pisces, as well as Aquarius, so I guess I'm supposed to share some of Clark's qualities (some chance of that <g>)

Fortunately, although astrology is kind of fun, I don't see how it could have anything to do with science. Didn't Robert Heinlein say that a touchstone to determine the worth of an "intellectual" is to find out how he feels about astrology? (that last is paraphrased from memory, which I willingly confess is probably not exact.)

I'm surprised there are so many Pisces on here. I rarely meet any other Pisces in RL. No wonder I feel so welcome on these boards! laugh

So when is Clark's b-day? Can't remember. Is he a Pisces?

I know heaps of people born under the sign of Gemini, including me! :0)
Posted By: Annalina19 Re: The Zodiac Poll! - 04/16/11 02:10 PM
And me, I'm a Gemini too. I know many Gemini and Pisces.
I find astrology a kind of fun, I don't believe on daily astrology, but I really believe our personality is influenced by our sign.

Nan! You stole my post! My birthday is Feb 19 and I was born on the cusp. No fair. goofy No wonder I love your stories.

AKA Superman was set during Clark's birthday. I looked for a date shown somewhere on the episode, but couldn't find one. He was found by the Kents on May 17th, 1966, so they must have assigned him a birthday approximately 3 months earlier. February 17th, perhaps?
Posted By: LabRat Re: The Zodiac Poll! - 05/11/11 06:14 PM
Clark gives his birthday as February 29th in Never On Sunday:

Quote
CLARK: Interesting trick.

SUNDAY: No trick. I only made use of what was already in his mind. (he regards Clark) You're a... Pisces, right?

CLARK: Good guess. February 29th.

SUNDAY: Nineteen sixty... five?

CLARK: Close. Sixty six.
Although I vaguely recall that citing a flurry of 'that doesn't make any sense' posts shortly after the episode aired. laugh And given the mysteriously floating date of the Kents' wedding anniversary, who knows when his birthday was by the time we got to AKA Superman. wink

He really has his birthday on February 29th ? because it must be pretty difficult to wish him - it's a leap day.
Moreover, 1966 was not even a leap year, the last one was 1964 so the next was 1968.

Don't know if that's what was written in the script, but I'm almost certain he delivers the line as Feb 28th. I think comic book canon has Clark's birthday as the 29th though.

Looking the results, I see a somewhat wave-like(?) pattern?

Does anyone really know why that is? I'm not super familiar with the Zodiac meanings and whatnot but I thought it was curious that the results don't seem all that random.
Posted By: Annalina19 Re: The Zodiac Poll! - 05/21/11 06:25 AM
I'm not sure we can really draw any conclusion from the poll. We're only 57 to have taken part of it, we are much more on this board, or so I think ! Even all the zodiac signs are represented. There is indeed a majority of Pisces, Sagittarius and Gemini but I'm not sure it means something.
Posted By: Mikura Re: The Zodiac Poll! - 05/22/11 01:20 AM
Perhaps not. I guess it just must be a lucky fluke that it was a clean wave pattern.

Hopefully more people might participate over time.

I'm a Libra! Yay for Oct. 15ht birthday! But I don't believe in the stuff - although I will read my horoscope once in a blue moon for fun.
