A box appear and said my Windows 7 wasn't a real copy and I know it is I have the box for it. It came install from Best Buy. So I looked it up online and found out. That there is a error going around from a update from Windows that causes this problem. The fix they say is to go below and do some other steps and fix it.

The problem is I can't find Computer Configuration on my laptop does anyone know where I could find it at.

Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings /Security Settings / System Services / Plug and Play (Startup Mode: Automatic)

You don't say where the site was that is giving this advice - I have multiple computers with Win 7 and I can't find a path like what you're describing. Security Settings refers to your fire wall and/or file sharing. System Services is under Administrative services (in the Control Panel).

My first instinct is to make sure your virus scanner is working - some of these buggers give warnings exactly like the one you're describing so you'll go to their site to 'fix' it and then you're really stuck.

Go to the Microsoft website and see what the help desks and forums are saying - if this is a real issue then that is the place to find out and find a real solution.

I know I can't find it so I'm not being dumb lol. I've looked this up and a few different sites. All have said the same thing when I use Bing to search.

I found an answer for this:
Quote
Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings /Security Settings / System Services / Plug and Play (Startup Mode: Automatic)
but it may not apply. If you are running Win 7 Pro, you can use the group policy editor, gpedit.msc, to manage these settings.

I don't know the answer for the home version of win7.

Sorry.

Since Bobbart is running Pro and I have Home - the advice you're finding may well be Pro specific. I still recommend going straight to Microsoft.com and look there for advice specific to the Win7 version you have.

I went to Microsoft and run a tool that was supposed to show up if something was wrong nothing came up.

And while I did see on the forums people having this problem they did not seem to have a answer for what to do there.

So far it only happened once but I keep getting a black screen on start up when I turn my laptop on in the morning after having it off all night. It last from about a minute or two to a few second this morning. And it doesn't happen at all sometimes.

Mine does the black screen too and has from the beginning. Based on previous versions of Windows, that's when Windows is loading drivers and doing background maintenance. It's unnerving but fairly normal. I make it a habit to go grab my coffee while my laptop boots up. My XP desktop stays on pretty much 24/7 since that's the server.

Have you tried what these people suggest?

They apparently have Win7 Home Premium.

It seems to have fixed it's self or one of the updates I got from windows did. So I'm hoping it doesn't ever do it again lol.
