Windows 10 and (lack of ) privacy - 08/09/15 02:49 PM
I wasn't sure whether to post these in this forum or in the "How To" one; Labby, if I chose wrong, please do move this.
Windows 10 leave a *lot* to be desired in terms of privacy settings. For example, unless you change the default settings, your bandwidth will be used to distribute updates to other people's computers.
Here are a few articles that discuss some settings you might seriously wish to modify if you decide to adopt Windows 10:
Windows 10 Security Settings You need to Know
Windows 10 Privacy Policy is a Disaster
Broken Windows Theory
Windows 10 Secretly Uses Your Bandwidth
Normally Iwould prefer not to be an early adopter -- let someone else deal with the breaking-in headaches -- but I chose to switch over since I had time to deal with the hassles now while I am still on summer vacation (for three more days...). So far, so good. I have turned off Cortana and a lot of the other new features precisely because of privacy concerns, but the use interface is somewhat nicer than in Windows 7, and worlds better than Windows 8.
Joy,
Lynn
