It is what it sounds like. I'm grasping at straws for this people, and just wondering if anybody could throw some stuff out there, I'd be grateful! Anyways, I've got a week to do a 30 second music video having something to do with trains, so any ideas you can think of would be great! (side note: preferably nothing by Train, the group...) laugh

Thanks!

Midnight Train to Georgia

(Waiting For) The Ghost Train by Madness. Although it's not actually about trains, it's about Apartheid in South Afica.

I dunno, I'll get back to you....

Johnny Cash = "Wabash Cannonball" , "Orange Blosson Special"

Arlo Gunthrie = "City of New Orleans"

John Denver = "Steel Rails / I\'ve Been Working on the Railroad"

And that was just four songs I found by typing "train songs" into the search on YouTube. (There were lots of kids songs as well). There's an old folk song about trains, or a caboose or something, but I can't remember the title off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

Virginia, is the kid's caboose song you half remember the one with the following lyrics?

Little red caboose, chug chug chug
Little red caboose, chug chug chug
Little red caboose behind the train, the train.
Smokestack on its back, shooting down the track.
Little red caboose behind the train, woowoo.

Also, there is a children's song that begins "Down by the Station, Early in the morning, see the little pufferbellies all in a row."

And, there is "My high silk hat," which takes place on a subway.

Moving away from strictly children's songs, Cat Stevens sang "Peace Train." And there's "This Train is Bound for Glory."

Joy,
Lynn

Virginia,

Would it be too obvious a pun if I were to say that I have a one-track mind? wink

Mouserocks,

Oh yeah. How could I forget -- especially on this list? There's the Monkee's "(Take the) Last Train to Clarksville".

I don't know any song specifically about trains. The only thing that came to mind was Soul Asylum's "Runaway train". Sorry...

Didn't Ozzy Osbourne have a song entitled, "Crazy Train"?

WOW! Lots of responses. Thanks guys! All great suggestions. Now my problem is whether or not I want to go with the obvious or something more subtle... Probably not kids' songs though. But then again, I go back and forth on that one anyways... Gah! Keep up the ideas anyways, folcs! Better to drown in an enormous list of songs than not have anything (then again, this is quite a list... wink )

No worries, Olive! In fact, that's a really good song, and another more understated one at that. If anything similar strikes you, let me know!

Not sure it's what you're looking for, but it evokes some images. wink

Guns N\' Roses - Night Train

(I have three more songs with "train" in the title, but two of them are completely metaphorical and the third one is in Greek. laugh )

Good luck with your project!

I just thought of another song. The Rankin Family's Orangedale Whistle uses the disappearance of trains to discuss how things change.

Freight Train - great old folk song with later variations

"Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I'm gone.....
