Any romantics interested in watching the Royal Wedding live?

Join us in IRC, #lanekent. It's during daylight for me, but for those across the pond, I'm afraid you'll be keeping very early hours - 4amET/1amPT.

Hi Jenni:
Yes, we're recording. How early I will get up depends on what we feel like. Thursday is a late night for me. So maybe I will join later.
Cool idea! Did you ever see them over at St. Andrews?
regards

I probably won't be watching it, but my teenage daughter and her friends have made plans to record it on the DVR, then get up early Saturday morning (since Friday is a school day) and watch it while eating tea and crumpets. Of course, they are teenagers, so who know how "early" this party will occur, LOL.

Hi Artemis,

I did see William once.

I was driving along the main road, and spotted this guy who I thought looked familiar, but I just couldn't think where I knew him from. Then 50 or so yards behind, there were two men in trenchcoats, who looked exactly what they were!
wink

That was when the penny dropped, but William and his friend had disappeared into the university quadrangle.

Hi Jenni:
That's funny. Unrecognizable except for being trailed by dudes in trench coats who look exactly like security! We still remember with fondness our nice tour there.

I'll be working so I won't watch it and I won't tape it either. The old VCR is still kicking but I just don't have the patience to sit through a ceremony. I caught glimpses of Felipe and Letizia's wedding and way back when of Dom Duarte and Dona Isabel's but I just quit. And besides the news for the next two weeks will be filled with videos from several moments of the ceremony and I'll eventually catch up on the most significative parts.

I should bite my tongue. I'm at home trying to finish my term paper and the wedding's on in every channel. So, I'm watching...

LOL, Olive. I sort of did the same thing. Went to a friend's house with the intention of using her piano to practice, and what did we end up doing-- watching the wedding, of course! :p

I DVR'd it. Will watch it later. From what I've seen of video stills, Kate looked GORGEOUS!!

I actually know Prince William through 2 people. laugh My friend Sara from college lived in Scotland for a short while. Her friend Alistair there, was friends with Prince William from school. cool

So who is that in the photo, Marcus? It looks like Doctor Who.

(and I have to admit that I didn't watch the royal wedding (it was on *very early* in the morning over here) but I did flip through the slide shows on various websites, and I did get all girly and swoony over Kate's wedding dress.)

Looks like Dr. Who to me, too.

I recorded the wedding because I didn't want to get up that early. I chose NBC because I thought the Today show would have good coverage. They did, but my local station thought that telling me over and over what the weather was doing (sunny and no tornadoes in sight), giving other assorted stories repeatedly, and telling us how nice they looked in their tuxedos in celebration of the day was more important than the wedding coverage. And, yes, they even interrupted the ceremony itself and broadcast through nearly all of it. I started recording at 5 am and stopped it a 8 am when my workday starts (at home so I can watch TV). I later started watching the part I missed and my local station interrupted over the the entire 3 hours. I wonder if they'll get a lot of flack over that. You think they will respond to my email expressing my disappointment?

And, on another note, what would Supes do if he was invited to the wedding?

It started at 1 a.m. here on the West Coast, so we recorded both NBC and BBCAmerica. On an ad for the Royal Wedding coverage they had the current Dr. Who on an airplane supposedly jetting back to England to go to the wedding. In the current Dr. Who season, he's supposedly in the US.
Anyway, we got up at 5 a.m. local and just caught the balcony scene real time. Later we wound up watching the BBC coverage on tape because it was more knowledgeable about who was what and what the ceremonies were about than the NBC coverage. I saw that scene, but didn't pick out Matt Smith. They went over the audience several times and that was the royal side. I see he's several rows behind the Duke of York. Any chance it was photo-shopped?
Anyway, cheers to BBC and their coverage. Also no commercials!!!

I got up at 4:30 a.m., called my mother at five and then watched the wedding, emailing a friend throughout the ceremony and talking to my mother on the phone while I watched. It was fun. You Brits put on a great show.

Sorry - should have made it clear - the photo is a manip spotted by a friend, and that is indeed the 11th Doctor.

My big regret yesterday was that the Zombie Royal Wedding Flash Mob planned for Covent Garden didn't happen, due to some fairly humourless law enforcement.

Oh, and someone who didn't like the wedding

What makes you think he didn't like the wedding, Marcus? laugh

Dear All,

Many of us watched in and out of the proceedings.

However, my wife and I wanted to see the ceremony.

One grouse: There was too much coverage of a certain footballer and his showbis wife with a bump! there were limited pictures of the rest of the royal family and loads of them! mad

Otherwise it was a beautiful ceremony, lovely music and a complete contrast to that wedding in July 1981 and the bride did not look like she had slept in her dress - where as her late mother-in-law did...

The pomp and ceremony was just right and thankfully the rain held off so all could see the happy couple. dance

The celebrations were just about right and it did become the private marriage celebration the couple wanted in the Abbey. smile

All we in London ask is that the Duke and Duchess now have the privacy that they deserve to start married life without being pestered by the paperazzi.

Regards,

Stuart

I thought it was a lovely ceremony for a really special couple. After all, the two of them could not EVER just slip off to Vegas and get married by Elvis or at a drive-through chapel. They did it as low key and personal as the future King of England could possibly do it with a smile on both their faces. Well done, Prince William & Kate. Have a wonderful life together!
