For anyone who wasn't already aware of it, the trailer for the Watchmen movie is now on line. Several sites have it, this one seems pretty fast.

It's visually impressive and looks like a VERY faithful rendition of the original story, but of course we won't know until it's released. I have a suspicion that in a year or two a lot of VERY bad fanfic will be posted by people who weren't even born when I first read The Watchmen...

Both my daughter and I liked the trailer, it does look remarkably like the original. I have an issue or two with the casting (specifically for "Silk Spectre II" and "Ozymandius") but maybe the actors involved will sell their roles better than I am anticipating they can.

Am I right in thinking this will be an automatic R rating? I know they are paring off a fair bit of footage to get it down from an 3 hour + running time to just over 2 hours-I'd rather see it split in two and some pirate footage added in (all of which is currently going to be on a seperate DVD, or so the stories go) so we can get the full benefit of the source material. Ah well...still at the top of my personal "must see" list for next year, though an R rating could be problematical since my daughter will only be 14 by that time and won't be happy if she has to miss it!!

Well, even ignoring the Silk Spectre's costume and Dr. Manhattan's nudity (if they don't wimp out), if it's anything like faithful to the plot of the book there will be enough graphic violence to get it a 16 or 18 rating in the UK.

From what I can see, they've made Laurie's outfit an abbreviated body suit, which makes stunt-work a lot less dicey or risque and as for Manhattan, it's all CGI and perhaps can avoid the R...but in the long run, R movies are beginning to make money at the box office, so perhaps pulling too many punches in the making of this movie would be shooting themselves in the foot. I think the built-in fanbase would be up in arms with too many changes and begin bad mouthing the whole affair.

Yes, I think you're right - not obvious at a first glance.

There's a new trailer - don't think it's as good as the first one but shows new scenes etc,

Thanks for the links! I was intrigued by the trailers when they first started playing, so I ran off to read it and found that it's absolutely amazing. I'm hoping they stay faithful to it!
