OK - my sister told me to do this and I did ... and well if you don't at least get a smile out of it then you really must be having a bad day!

When you have a minute ...

Go to www.google.com

Click on Maps

Click on Get Directions

Type in "Chicago" to "London"

(Yeah I know, I know, but trust me and do it anyway ... you probably won't expect what you see ... LOL ...)

Check out #20 when the results come up and ...

Have yourself a giggle! I sure did! rotflol

Heh. I've gone from Chicago to London before (and, boy, are my arms tired...)

Thank you for that! Wonderful! I think I might just have to share that with my colleagues. I know quite a few people who will be amused. smile

[Edited to add: my boss loved this and immediately found some other routes that required swimming across the Atlantic. smile

The couple of routes within the UK that I tried out seem perfectly sensible, however. Plus, Google actually recognises the name of where I live... which is more than a lot of people do! smile ]

Going to London... maybe next year?

So funny, Genine! thumbsup

It works for a lot of places in the US - I saw some one who did Dallas and I did our little town and it worked smile . Different number on the instructions of course but... wink

I don't know what's funnier, #20 or the fact that you're directed to France first and cross the channel later. laugh
Posted By: woody Re: Google for a giggle! - 04/04/07 12:26 PM
Yeah, you have to leave by the same place and arrive at the same place. That's kind of weird. I tried Beijing as well, and Hong Kong, but they didn't have instructions.
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Google for a giggle! - 04/04/07 12:28 PM
True. I tried Chicago => Sidney and, after that failed, Hongkong => Sidney. Still no result. Wonder what happens with Malaga (South Spain) and Cairo? Okay, they don't know that, either. Not even the famous route Paris => Dakar. Sad!

That one is on purpose, probably added just the other day. Microsoft on the other hand, http://news.com.com/MapPoint+users+in+for+long+and+winding+road/2100-1012_3-5552305.html

From New York to Lisbona by way of North of France? From New York to Galway by way of North of France??? Looks a little crazy to me!

I tried several combinations of US and European cities. The route over the Atlantic always was the same (even for Miami => Lisboa). Seems like some prankster put in a 'swim-route' for this case. laugh

Clearly the French government is paying Google to direct tourists towards northern France. wink

According to the time estimate, it should take you about 4 weeks to do it.

I found this from Google, also, although it doesn't relate to the Google Maps "glitch".

And it's interesting how the PHD's are the ones that make the connection. laugh

Take a look at the link that they provided at the end of the press release; it has a lot more information, and pictures.

There is even a Google group for questions and troubleshooting.

I got College, AK to work as well.

#6 and #55(20) are fun.

Please note that it takes 32 days 10 hrs.

If you do Boston to Le Havre they are allot you 29 days and 1 hour to swim some 3,462 miles.

That breaks down to about 5 miles an hour, which could be doable, if your last name is Kent...

I had seen the GMail Paper version. Maybe they can deliver your emails with the Google Checkout option? wink

Juneau to London takes over a hundred segments, too.
