over in the caption competition thread, i came up with one that involved an internet excuse generator. it's been nagging at me, because i had a feeling i'd come across an actual version of such a thing. did a web search and turned up not one, but several. thought i'd share, not only to give proper credit, but also for fun. not to mention the fic possibilities..

this one gives a random choice from a database of categorized excuses.

the random excuse generator comes up with a quick excuse by plugging random words from an extensive dictionary into a preset formula.

this one gives a new "tech support solution" every time you refresh the page.

this one gives you a note to hand to your teacher based on a form you fill out.

the sickday excuse generator is pretty much self-explanatory.

this is a menu-based apology note generator.

this one will come up with a new excuse for why you aren't available to do something every time you tell it to stop.

this one lets you pick from a list of parameters, or at least claims to...

this one isn't too helpful around here... it's an excuse for why your fanfic wasn't very good.

this one gives you excuses to give the friendly officer who pulled you over for speeding.

this one comes up with a new excuse every time you press the button.

there are plenty of others. enough that it's starting to get a bit scary...

Thanks for these, Paul. I can see that several of them might come in very handy for the procrastinating author. Especially now that my traditional 'Sorry, but I was abducted by aliens this week and by the time I got home...' and handily leaving off the year when announcing, "Yup, I'll definitely have SDB finished by April...' have been sussed by way too intellingent readers in this fandom and are now more or less useless.
