Quote
In America, only the successful writer is important, in France all writers are important, in England no writer is important, and in Australia you have to explain what a writer is.
- Geoffrey Cottrell

When I first saw this quote I immediately thought:
'wonder what Tricia will make of this!'

Who is this Geoffrey Cottrell, anyway?

Sorry, Tricia smile It wasn't meant personally, though I can understand how it might seem so...

I'm not prejudiced, really! some of my best friends are Australian writers! goofy

I'll start looking for a new cute quote smile And here I thought I'd get into trouble for the previous sig... wink

Bethy, I don't remember the exact phrasing, but it was a quote about how the EU was a noble attempt to fulfill the age-old dream of a nation of English cooks, German lovers, French defence forces, and Italian efficiency experts wink And then I added in a bit about how war is God's way of teaching Americans geography smile just so I'd be fair and balanced wink
