Great update.

Definitely curious to find out who is behind Jay's door. Is it Jay's father? Cannot wait to find out.

Looking forward to reading Part 21.

clap Beth, great installment smile

Okay, so what did we get here...?

Ellie crying over not being able to do enough (in her mind). Hmm, I wonder who she might have gotten that particular streak.

Clark taking care of her broken heart was just awww.

And finally, they floated clap

“I think… I think you’ll want to open the door,” I said, hardly believing who it was on the opposite side.
Uncool, Beth. Way, way uncool. wildguy

The first part of the scene is very reminiscent of a similar scene between Lois and Clark in Wendy’s “If I’d Lost You…”. I mean this in the best possible way in that I find your interpretation of Ellie’s reaction to not being able to do enough both touching and realistic. These are the kinds of moments that make the characters alive and interesting. Well done! clap

Now, I have to cast my vote as to who is on the other side of the door. My vote is that it’s Jay’s dad and he went to the art show and, just maybe, something approaching a real thought penetrated that brick he uses as a brain.

Ellie's reaction to not being able to do everything also mirrors Lois's in the episode "Ultra Woman." It's nice to know that the Lane intensity is passed on to future generations.

So who's on the other side of the door? Tell us! This may be the meanest cliffhanger - er, reader incentive - I've ever read!

Next chapter soon, please.

Wow! thud Look at all the feedback! Thanks so much, everyone. I had no idea this many people were still reading!

I'm glad you liked the scene with Ellie being upset. It was one of those ones I had planned for a long time in my head before finally making a copy on Word. This idea has been a recurring theme, both on the show and in the fandom, but it's the first time I've tackled it in my own writing. I guess I just needed to be able to find a scene that worked with the plot and made sense for the characters. (and, Bob, being compared to the great Wendy Richards can never, ever, be a bad thing wink )

As for who's behind the door, well it's obviously... oh, wait, I forgot. I'm not supposed to tell you that yet. laugh

I'm so glad people enjoyed this chapter, and thanks so much to everyone for leaving comments. Look forward to the next one on Friday, where all will be revealed.
