He saved Lois' life, but at what cost...?

The cat is out of the bag! I think Clark would pay any cost to keep Lois safe but now that the reality of what he did is sinking in, I think he’s in shock as much as Lois is. Lois will hopefully cover for Clark but I’m on pins and needles. Henderson and Perry are going to want answers and Luthor is still on the loose. I can’t wait for more! Thanks for a terrific chapter! I love this story!

What a great chapter! Glad that Clark was able to rescue Lois, but how is he going to explain all this to Lois? It’s clear that even through the fog that Lois noticed something off about how she was rescued. Hope that he comes clean with her.

Also, I’m curious to see how he will explain his whereabouts should someone go to his home to check up on him.

Oh Clark, I'm sensing a panic attack approaching now that he's exposed himself in front of Lois. Can't wait for that next chapter. He'll have a lot of explaining to do

I really hope Lois can process things well enough to realize that how she responds to this will dictate how their future together continues, or continues at all.

I suppose she'll realize there was a bit more to his magicking food to her apartment now.

Can't wait for tomorrow ^_^ I really hope they get a change to talk alone soon. Clark I think definitely needs to.

And, oh gosh, I just realized, Martha and Jonathan have NO IDEA what's happened. He just upped and left work, apparently super sick! shock

Ack! All right, ladies, where’d my happy place go?! I was lulled into this cotton candy cloud of waff and then bam, here come the last 5 parts and my heart has been in my throat through all of them! I think it’s because you all write waff so well, I forget that you can write a killer a-plot too!

Ever since you dropped the somebody’s-took-a-shot-at-you part, I’ve been like Clark - super paranoid at every turn. I thought you might go cleaning guy at the planet (a la Barbara Trevino) to get to Lois, then I was paranoid about the police escort (he works for Luthor!)… I was nervous about anyone Lois passed on the street, lol. These last few parts have definitely been intense.

I liked the call back to The Phoenix with Lex getting to her that way… this Lex was seemed a bit more sinister and… unhinged, maybe? He doesn’t have his love for Lois (however weird and kinda obsessive) to slow his roll, like in the show. I was scared with Lois!

And so how did Clark find her? She couldn’t yell, she just kept calling to him… are we just reaching across time and space like at the end of S3? I’m so happy he did, and I’m interested to see how this convo is going to go, now that she realizes just what he did to save her.

Still loving, still reading, still impatiently waiting for each part!

Counting the costs indeed! sick

I don't think I have ever felt so sympathetic, just so sad, for Clark as in this moment. He has saved Lois and she will be okay. But now he's facing the terrifying reality that Lois knows he isn't 'normal'. And maybe others will figure it out too. Just when he could almost grasp the future he had longed for, he's afraid he could lose everything and more.

Quote
His hand slipped from hers, and she watched as Clark took a step back, his eyes like a hunted animal.

Oh, that line says it all! I hope he doesn't resort to his default defense mechanism and RUN AWAY! Because Lois may be confused about what has happened. Who wouldn't be? But this near death experience made her acknowledge what she wants her future to look like more than anything else; and that future includes Clark Kent.

They definitely have a lot to talk about! Please give Clark a few more minutes of courage; enough to stick around.

P.S. Annie & Kathy, you did a great job of helping this reader clearly understand the risks that Clark took to save Lois. He is so close to potentially losing everything, including that idyllic life in Smallville. That's real courage! I can't help but think of the alt Clark in the series and how he lost so much when his identity was revealed.
