This is the result of a perfect storm - a great prompt from the twitter account DailyWritingPrompt and the Kerth Challenges (as organized by Val). Enjoy!

This story was very good. It certainly felt true to the character, making a sad but honest backstory that brought Jack to the point in his life where we meet him in season one. Excellent work! clap

Excellent glimpse into Jack's past! It was heartbreaking, but it drew me in and kept me there.

Well done, ma'am!

Thanks, Groobie! Glad it rang true for you. I felt like Jack had to wind up in his situation due to a traumatic past. He'd not as hardened as he passes himself off to be (or he never would have befriended Clark as swiftly as he did OR keep Clark's secret, which I'm convinced he knew by Fly Hard.)

Thank you, E! Glad to know it hit the mark with you! It was actually kind of fun creating Jack's tragic past.

Unchartered territory.

That's what this story is. We usually see Jack after Clark got him a job at the Daily Planet. The kind of life he lead before breaking into Clark's home and stealing his computer and most important of all, the globe, was simply heartbreaking. Thanks so much for writing this story Vicki, it really had to be told.

Thanks, Morgana! It was actually pretty fun imagining what Jack's life was like before we got to meet him, and just *why* he was so rough around the edges.
