Thanks for the inspiration, Lynn! smile1

clap You got me! It's been a while since I had read Lynn's story, so I wasn't expecting this twist. Great! I especially love how you dragged the reader along before revealing who the female reporter was. At first, I thought Cat. But then when she didn't recognize Clark, I thought it was Lois (new dimension) and she hadn't met Clark because she was in TV instead of news. That it was Diana and she was going to sic Intergang on poor Barry. notworthy I can just picture Clark tortured between laughing at her and rescuing Barry. Perfect! Great comeuppance!

Loved it! Though, with the description of her nails at the beginning, I thought it was going to be Mindy Church. Imagine she had seen Barry exactly as you've written it in this story before she met Clark in We Have A Lot To Talk About. Superman in disguise is already in her mind, and when she sees Clark, everything clicks. laugh

Totally works for the Canterbury Tales challenge. thumbsup

Thanks. That was all part of my evil plan. I thought it would be fun if Diana saw the lookalike and got the idea to find out who Superman really was. (I was hoping Cat and Lois would be guesses!)

Way to go DC! I loved it! It had me wondering from the first paragraph who she was. Perfect setup, perfect execution. Roared laughing at the end.

Thanks

Cute story. Thanks for rising to the challenge. smile

My first thought, too, had been that the woman was Lois. The television interviews had me question that, and the mani/pedi made me reject that hypothesis entirely. I had also briefly considered and discarded Mindy Church, and then rapidly settled on Stride. Since you mentioned the context in which this story was written, I had immediately assumed that the man was Barry and not Clark. Had I not known the context, however, I would have been fooled by him for a while, as well.

Now I just hope that Barry doesn't get kidnapped (either by Stride and company or by someone else) and have a hard time convincing the perps that he really is just plain old Barry Letterman. ("So you can bleed. So what? You think we're stupid and we never heard about kryptonite? What do you think this little green insurance policy is here? Of course you can bleed!")

Joy,
Lynn

Happy to hear I made you laugh! Of course, Lois would never order a salad. Unless it was made of chocolate. wink

No kidnappings. Just setting up the events of Top Copy. I figured it would make sense that she saw the lookalike in order to fixate on the idea of a secret identity. Let's just be glad Trask didn't find poor Barry! shock

Oh man, you had me going there! shock

Imagine if Diana was not involved with Intergang? Her TV career would have tanked in a spectacular manner!

Thanks so much for the laugh!

What a pleasure to read, DC!

I really have enjoyed thinking even more about Barry--how when you look just like Superman, really, what can happen. I can totally see this being the stepping stone to Diana looking into Superman's secret identity notworthy.

Why, I have no idea, but my mind went to Diana right away. Totally lucky guess, I think grin. Maybe just the bit about the mani/pedi--cause I knew then it couldn't be Lois...and then the part about interviews being held at the same location made it seem more like an actual to-be-filmed tv interview type of job.

It's so fun when stories inspire other stories. Really enjoyed this one!

Thanks! Glad you liked it! It's pretty fun to think of what kinds of trouble this would get Barry into - maybe enough to get plastic surgery to NOT look like a celebrity!

Two thumbs up. If there was a "Hazel's Twist" challenge this would be the first.

Hi Vicki!

Quote
A chance encounter between two strangers leads to Clark's worst nightmare.
Huh…Lois and Mayson before Season 2? Lois and Lana before Season 3?

Quote
"I'll have the tomato and mozzarella salad with the balsamic vinaigrette with the grilled shrimp. And an ice water with lemon," the woman said, folding her menu and handing it back to the waitress, whose name she'd already forgotten.
The obvious choice would be Lois. Although, she’s not been *that* particular when ordering, the name-forgetting does work for her.

Quote
Three short interviews, all thankfully being shot at the same location.
Shot? Hmm…Okay, so it’s Diana Stride?

Quote
Wait a minute! her brain screamed at her, dragging her eyes back to the gentleman sitting a few tables away on her right side. Is that who I think it is?
Clark? Well…Superman?

Quote
As discreetly as she could, she studied the man. His eyes, the set of his jaw, the mole over his lip, the lopsided smile that he gave to the waitress as she brought over his lunch.
Yep, Superman.

Quote
So that's what he does when he's not off saving lives, she mused to herself. He goes incognito and mingles with the rest of us. Hmmm...I wonder...
The Top Copy origin story, then?

Quote
The way he tried to turn away and make it look like a natural movement when a family of seven walked by his table.
He’d make a good spy? If he died his hair blonde and grew a beard, that is.

Quote
"I want to tell you all about Top Copy's newest explosive expose."
See?

Quote
Barry Letterman sat eating his steak sandwich,
Oh?
BARRY: What? What?

Quote
followed by a nine year old's birthday party.
Followed by the nine year old’s divorced mother’s post-birthday party?

Quote
After all, it wasn't like he was hurting anyone by doing it.
BARRY: *What*?

That was fun! With an unexpected twist on top laugh

wave Hi, Michael!

Clark: She said worst nightmare, not the destruction of planet Earth a la Krypton-style.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! smile

The Top Copy origin story, then?

Very good!

But he can't lie! He's like Jim Carey in Liar, Liar!

Clark: The suit is r...re...r...royal blue!

Oh, so more like Lois dying after she gets married to Lex Luthor?
