Well Lois is going to have to be honest or this week in Paris will just be another frustrating week for her. It's interesting that she can tell Clark that she knows he is Superman but can't tell him that she just is pretty much broken without him. She does not even really have to use the love word at this time but she really can't get past her fear. I would have thought the 'secret' would have been at least as scary if not more so than her feelings about him. Maybe she realizes that she must tread carefully else he will think she only loves him now because she knows he is Superman. She could explain that one of the reasons she was scared was that she KNEW he was holding something back, keeping something from her and now she knows what that is/was and has gotten over her anger so much of that fear has dissipated . The knowledge that Clark knows that she knows he is Superman cannot be undone. She just needs to be honest and let the chips fall where they fall.

It will be interesting in seeing how you handle the REAL revelation and how Clark reacts to it.

Delightful chapter full of action on both the A and B plots. I really like the way you are continuing both of them.

Quote
“All together... 347. But a lot of those are dialects.”

Lois' mind boggled. She couldn't even name 347 languages, let alone speak them.

“Is that one of your powers?” she asked, deliberately keeping her voice low.

He shrugged. “I don't really know. I've always had an ear for languages, and I've travelled a lot. But I don't know if it's a super thing or not.”

Clark sharing a little of just what he doesn't know about himself shows his vulnerability, even though Lois has hurt him.

Quote
“Why do you do that?”

He looked up at her, his glasses still hanging off the tip of his nose. She stifled a giggle. He looked like an absent minded professor.

“Do what?”

“Pull your glasses down like that.”

“Oh.” Self consciously he slid them back up. “My vision powers won't work through them.”

She looked at him strangely. As Superman, she'd seen him look through – and burn through – materials much tougher than glass, so why would a simple pair of spectacles stop him?

“Why?”

“They're not normal glass- it's lead crystal glass.”

“Why lead crystal?”

“I can't see through lead. It was my parents' idea. When I first got my powers sometimes I'd have trouble controlling them. The lead crystal stopped me from using them when I didn't mean to.”

Love this description and his explanation.

Quote
“Suddenly I know why all of his excuses are so flimsy”, she muttered under her breath. It was harder to think of them on the spot than she thought it would be, and she didn't even have the distraction of trying to get somewhere in a hurry.

Yes! She's seeing how hard it is to be Clark. clap

Not quoting everything here, but love the description of Clark opening up to Lois and explaining why he left and won't return as things stand now. Glad to see Clark expressing his anger, which he often doesn't do openly. Leaving before he thinks she'll stomp on his heart is heart-wrenching, and totally understandable after the ways she treated him in the past.

I can't help but wonder how Clark would have reacted if Lois had shared her feelings for him first, but then she doesn't realize he's in love with her and that's why he left. It's fascinating to see how Clark responds to the revelation of his secret before her declaration of love (if she'll even confess that). And ironic that he probably would have reacted better if she'd confessed her love first, the opposite of what he did in the series. Interesting spin in that it seems as though they may both be confessing in the order that is best for themselves, not the other person. I never thought of that in the series, but it gives an entirely different perspective to Clark's proposal in ATAI - and Lois's reaction.

Looking forward to more, and resolution of this cliff hanger. Soon I hope? grovel

Argh! You certainly known how to hit us over the head with a cliffhanger. Lois certainly deserved Clark flying off on her, after she was stupid enough to think that he would have stuck around Metropolis watching her date Dan while being in love with her and knowing he'd never have a chance. Blocking Lois's call to him to return, though, was rude for Clark, even though he only did it to protect his bruised heart (completely understandable in this circumstance).

Clark won't be back from Vienna soon. I didn't realize how vital his part of the reporting block was. He won't be able to ditch it for the art investigation, even though he'll want to return and apologize for flying off on Lois (or to rescue her, whichever comes first).

The A-plot is just as frustrating. All of us here are screaming at our screens, IT'S LEX LUTHOR! but why would your characters believe us. He's dead. How will they jump to the next clue? Will Lex out himself to Lois as he did in canon? Or will Lois stumble onto his existence? Will it require Super help to get away from her ex-fiance?

Can't wait to find out! More please!

Yes, I know. Sorry (although at the same time, kind of not sorry), but the chapter just didn't seem to end naturally anywhere else.
Plus I like cliffhangers lol.

The next chapter is being beta-read (thanks KenJ!). So yes, soon smile

Thanks everyone! I'm writing like crazy to get this story finished with all the loose ends tied up. I tend to write bits and pieces as they occur to me (not necessarily in order) and I actually just finished writing the ending! The story isn't finished yet, there's still gaps, but I was pretty excited.

Feli!!! Hey??? I need more story...now! grovel

What a way to end it! Completely agree with Groobie--you (and Clark) need to get back here smile.

Wow. The whole part was great--I'm completely invested in their investigation--and then they finally start to talk. Really talk. Clark bares it all, again. Lois...doesn't. And now he is gone. Literally. Out of the country.

Part 5 is needed, very much so shock. How long till they see each other? Will Clark come back? Can Lois board a plane, show up while Clark is working? huh Will Lois tell Clark everything--that she does love him?

Showing up a bit late for this part might be a good thing--it's going to be a long wait till you post again!

Awesome job,
Laura

As I said previously, keep writing, I and others in this fandom will keep reading!

Clark has mention he has friends, but he could never get close to anyone because of the secret.
