"Lois Rules! - A Story" TOC

I would like to thank all of you who contributed to the Lois Lane manual in time for me to post this for April 1. laugh Thank you.

Again, I'm sorry, Tank, but I had to work with what I was given. Don't hate me. wave

Now, excuse me I need to... peep

Lovely! Lois' side comments were absolutely perfect to balance out the rest. I was evil

Fantastic job!

Hi Virginia,

I love what you did with the list. Especially with 101.

Brava!

Joy,
Lynn
LOL! What an idea!

Quote
Rule #23 - Keep away from people named Maxwell - especially if they are a doctor.
- More true than #21 and #22! If Lois gets amnesia, best to take her home and you be the doctor.
Better yet, let Clark be "playing doctor" with her. blush

Quote
Rule #26 - If Lois says she's not up to anything, she's lying. She usually is. Feel free to stalk from a reasonable distance.
- I don’t lie! If I’m up to something, it usually takes place AFTER he asks. Stalk? Ha! Hover is more like it.
Yeah, hovering is so his thing. (Both figuratively and literally.)

Quote
Rule #28 - Be careful with her skull. She may seem thickheaded sometimes, but a bump on the noggin will make her forget the best guy in the universe is her boyfriend...twice...
- Twice? This happened twice?
clap

Quote
Rule #84 - Regardless of #83, Lois does rate 5 stars in the kitchen.
- Thank you. Nice save.

#84a - She also rates 5 stars on the ceiling or any other place you can imagine.
- Oh, is that what he meant? Hee-hee. Naughty, naughty Clark.
That one sunk in a little slowly. (Probably because Lois didn't expect that kind of naughtyness from her gentleman husband?)

Quote
#92 - Keep Lois away from any kind of blonde. They won't get along. (Linda King, Lana Lang, Toni Taylor, Toni Baines...)
- Mayson Drake, dog walkers named Tiffani, Penny Barnes, Mindy Church... I could go on, but do I really need to?
- As a personal rule, I don’t trust any woman who is blonde. It just makes my life easier. I only have a few exceptions to this Rule: Alice White and Martha Kent.
- Yes, I do realize that my mother is not included within those exceptions. And?
I wouldn't have included her, either. party

Quote
He closed the Handbook and set it down on his desk, crossing his arms. “Now, I believe there are some things we need to discuss.”

H.G. Wells blanched at the intensity of Clark’s gaze and cleared his throat. “You know, Clark, it isn’t good to know too much about your future.”

“Uh-huh,” Clark said. “Too late for excuses, Herb. Get talking. Let’s start with this ‘curse’.”
I'd love to be privy to that conversation...

Poor Alt-Clark, he has many things to remember and take care of !

Lucky Tank, he is a legend! *We agree Lois you have a beautiful neck!*

I really enjoyed this story and Lois' extra commentary.

I just have a question on this rule:

Quote
Rule #63 - To bring Lois out of her shell and start the process of friendship building, simply take to the Smallville Corn Fest.
#63a - Frequent exposure to the elder Kents is good for Lois.
Isn't this rule a bit pointless considering Alt-Clark's parents have passed away? Or is Clark thinking of publishing his guide for distribution in other alternate universes? smile

I used the list as it was compiled on the above thread, making no changes (it made it more of a challenge). I'll probably remove this (a) for the Archive version of this story as it doesn't really apply. My thoughts for the origional Handbook though (the list without the story), is that it could always be used by Clark, should he lose his memories again. laugh

Oooh. blush I just realized I forgot to thank my wonderful Beta Reader. Thank you so much, Mrs. Luthor!

Thank you all for your kind words. More later, I'm really supposed to be cleaning up.

EDIT: Okay, I've fixed it now. Sorry, Mrs. L.

Mouserocks: Glad you enjoyed. I have a sequel in mind... maybe someday when my writing schedule allows (i.e. during my next bout of writer's block wink .)

Lynn: Thank you. I had a different ending in mind, but when that last one came up, it just faded away. It does kind of explain her roller coaster of reactional emotions, doesn't it? wink

That list is being edited by Lynn S.M. cool Anyway, for some reason, I cannot see Clark responding to Lois's rules with snarky comments. Mumblings under his breath, maybe, but not snarky comments.
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: FDK - Lois Rules! - A Story (1/1) - 04/02/12 12:46 PM
I agree with Virginia. For the most part, Clark does not snark. (Not even in the dark in the park on a lark. Gee, can you tell I'm in a silly mood? blush )

Anyway, anyone who wishes to write something similar for Clark's rules has my blessing.

Joy,
Lynn

Absolutely hysterical.

Clark should have known that no lock will keep Lois out if she is determined to get in. dance

Clark set down the list and walked over to his bookcase where he removed his dictionary. Sure enough, penciled into the margin in Lois’s handwriting was:

Chumpy (adj): someone who’s a chump.
clap In case of emergency copulation required?

- Is that where he keeps his secret stash? Ha Ha! Now, I know!
Oops?

Quote
- True about the flying off. Don’t EVER fly off on me when I’m mad. It just ticks me off.
laugh

Quote
- What am I a gremlin?
Mogwai, Lois. Mogwai. Gremlins are the critters a Mogwai spawns. Aside from that, it’s true. Mogwai Lois must be fed (as in *censored*) regularly after midnight, *and* the part about *censored* *censored* *censored* *censored*. Otherwise, she turns into a gremlin and bites Ralph’s head off in the morning. Remember how she was when Clark was missing?

Quote
- He paced his ceiling? Really? I almost made Superman cave? Who knew the power of a harem costume?
See? Better make a note so you can get him to cave first during the sex-withholding stratagem.

Quote
Rule #44 - The only time she'll ever let you put her on a leash is when she's pretending to be your concubine. (Don't ask!)
- Oh, I had forgotten about that. Hee hee. Yeah, don’t ask.
- Addendum 44a – Do ask, but not us. This is another one to talk to Wells about.
- Addendum 44b – Lois still has the costume and the leash for when Clark has been a particular good boy.
Quote
- I find costumes (or uniforms, as the case may be) are equally effective when they come off.
/points to harem’s costume/

I'm a bit late posting in this thread but I had to say I loved the adaptation. Lois' comments were fun and completely in-character - gave the rules perspective and some comedic sense of homogeneity. Great work, VirginiaR!! clap

Rule #15: Chumpy is a word.
- Yes, it is. Just look it up in your dictionary. It’s there.
- PS: Don’t use it to describe me.

Clark set down the list and walked over to his bookcase where he removed his dictionary. Sure enough, penciled into the margin in Lois’s handwriting was:

Chumpy (adj): someone who’s a chump.
This is soooo Lois.

Quote
“Leash? Concubine?” Clark asked.

Wells shifted from one foot to another. “Perhaps it’s not wise to know too much about one's future,” he said elusively.

“Uh-huh,” Clark replied. Obviously he and Herb were going to have a serious discussion later that evening before he left.
Poor Wells... clap
Doesn't Alt-Clark wonder where Lois' ability to x-ray something autonomously came from? Or did he quit questioning the rules since so many of them refer to unimaginable and strange happenings of his counterpart's life?

Quote
Rule #76 - If you like Lois with long hair, don't introduce her to Tank Wilson.
- Who is this Tank Wilson that Clark keeps mentioning? Is he a source of Perry’s?
- (after quick internet search) Oh, my God. Did you know that there’s a man out there who’s got some kind of weird hair fetish with me? I’m glad Clark’s already keeping an eye on him.
- I do have to agree with him that I have a nice neck though.
laugh Lois' comments about finding who Tank Wilson is are priceless. I can almost picture her panicked/ shocked face and then her look when she concludes he's right about her neck...

Quote
#92 - Keep Lois away from any kind of blonde. They won't get along.
This was a very sensible rule in the first place. laugh The added exceptions make it even better and the exclusion of Ellen Lane make it great (poor Ellen, though).

Quote
- I take vacations; isn’t that what weekends are?
rotflol

Quote
#96 - Feed her fish. She will often forget about them in the pursuit of a story.
- I feed my fish! Never have I ever killed my fish during the pursuit of a story! That’s what I love about them, they’re self-sufficient pets.

#97 - If said fish meet their timely (or untimely) end, comfort Lois and help her find new ones to torture erm... nurture.
- The only time I can recall losing any fish is when he was exposed to red Kryptonite and his powers went haywire because he could no longer control them, and it had been an accident. I forgave him. It hadn’t been his fault. The only reason I needed comforting was because I was worried about my husband, not about my… my… fish, who had been my friends and company for years, who I could talk to when my life went crazy… and I’m not crying over dead fish!
Wonderful thoughts on Lois' part. When I read about her crying into the notebook I actually felt guilty about implying Lois didn't care for her fish and even worse for implying Clark didn't care for Lois' fish...

Quote
Clark’s jaw dropped. “We can’t have children?” he stammered. “It’s impossible?”

“You know, I’ve never liked that word,” Wells said and smiled knowingly. “No, not impossible.”

“Not…” Clark’s eyes dropped down to the other Clark’s last rule.
&

Quote
- Don’t tell Clark, but I’m pregnant! I’m telling him at dinner. Shhhhh, it’s a secret.
I loved what you did with this last part. It's wonderful. sloppy

Quote

Well done for Alt-Clark! Loved the ending (and Wells got what he deserved).

I wondered why Alt-Clark didn't bat an eyelash at this comment. Does he already know something about Zara? She wasn't referred to before, it seems. Same in #67.
blush Very true! I'll have to rethink Lois's answer to this one (& #67) before sending it off to the Archives.

Quote
I already read your explanation about this, but it was one of the things that caught my attention since the Alt-Kents are dead.
Yes, this one will have to be changed too.

Quote
Doesn't Alt-Clark wonder where Lois' ability to x-ray something autonomously came from? Or did he quit questioning the rules since so many of them refer to unimaginable and strange happenings of his counterpart's life?
Yep, she probably didn't have a chance to warn him about Red K. either. Hmmmm. I'll definiately have to relook some of her answers (and his reactions) before sending it to LabRat.

I just got to this story. VERRRRRY INTERSTING!

I think that rule #1 is: If you don't want Lois to see something, keep it on your person 24/7. Then when you have to get close enough to her that she might see what you have, invoke all rules about chocolate. Since it is really impossible to keep all the strange (and I mean things no one else would even think about happening to them) out of Lois' life, learn to go with the flow. cool

Enjoyed Lois' response to the "Lois Jokebook." The one liners and good natured ribbing of her character flaws and her magnet of the unusual happenings could only be about our Lois. It was even more fun that the original rules.

Actually, I think Michael had it right, I think Clark was able to save all the fish after his hicups in Leathal Weapon. I was just trying to show her emotions all over the place. (strange foreshadowing, that's true)
Huh. I think you guys are right. I didn't question it at first because I thought there was one who went missing. But that was in Anti-K's Letal Qualities, not actual cannon. (Which just proves why Anti-K won BNA this year - because she's awesome enough that some of us mistake her writing for cannon.)
