It's just made it's round in the headlines (sorry, havne't head time to google the English-speaking sources):

There's a surgeon who has plans to do an actual full-body (minus head) transplant in 2018, in China. Plans to stick the head back on to another body and to glue the spinal cord back together.

This did sound vaguely familiar to a FoLC...
