I was re-reading Shayne Terry's "Gossip" .

Assume the folks in Smallville do know about Clark.

Superman is missing after the Nightfall asteroid incident.

Martha & Jonathan can't get a flight to Metropolis .

All the people of Smallville mobilize to help find Clark Kent.

Picture the scene at the Daily Planet when yet another person stops by to look for Clark.

Or the countless phone calls to expatriate Smallvillers around the globe.

Africa, the Court of King H'Rtva

Private audience chamber, present are the King, and his daughter. Lana Lang enters

"Ms.Lang, your request sounded urgent, but I am at a loss to understand what could be so urgent to an archaeologist? Digging up dead things is not a time sensitive.."

"Father!" interrupted his daughter. She smiled and offered her hand.

"You look just as Clark described you Lana. How is he? Have you heard from him recently?"

"Clark, well Clark is missing and"

"The asteroid strike near N'Toma, that's why you're here?"

Lana grinned at the princess.
"Exactly, Clark said you were sharp."

"What are you two talking about" said the king.

The princess faced her father.

"Everyone is looking for Superman, what Lana means is we should be looking for Clark."

Am I missing something? Who are these characters? How would Lana notice Clark being missing from Africa? Why would she draw a conclusion of missing Clark to Superman, if she didn't know about him beforehand? And why would she bring it before this king? Unless amnesiac Clark crashes in Africa, I'm lost on why this subplot would be important?

I think Patrick is talking about the Nigerian Princess, who taught Clark how to dance.

According to his plot bunny, everyone in Smallville knows about Clark's secret. And now every person in Smallville or any person who has ever lived there is trying to find Clark. Lana could ask the African King for his help. After all, no one really knows where Clark landed after he returned from outer space.
