Jonathan Kent's knowledge that his young son was from another planet wasn’t entirely due to the rocket they'd found him in. After all, the space race was in full swing, and who was to say that some crackpot with too much time, curiosity, and infants hadn’t done something reprehensible in the name of science? For this reason, even the burgeoning powers that Clark was starting to exhibit weren’t conclusive evidence that Clark wasn’t born on Earth. The tractor incident settled the question, though.

Jonathan sometimes wondered if his son even remembered what happened. It had been inexplicable to young Clark himself, who had only been able to say “It felt right" when questioned about it, but Jonathan had immediately understood. He'd looked at his son, still astride the tractor, and at the intricately patterned circles mown into the corn, and simply shook his head and went back inside.
