Clark’s arm goes rigid against Zara’s. He still possesses his powers. His cells are still gorged on the radiation of a gentler sun than theirs. He could, he knows, tear himself from Zara’s weaker hold. Could walk away from their useless plucking at his limbs. Could rip the bulkheads apart and flee this ship in an ebony and blue blur.

He could, he thinks with his heart rushing loud in his inner ear, still change his mind.

“Clark Kent!” Lois said reproachfully. “You have some explaining to do! The conference room, now!”

“Oh boy,” Clark muttered under his breath, following her. This couldn’t be good. He went into the conference room and closed the door behind them.

Clark sank relieved on his sofa.
He was very scared, but apparently nobody noticed.
People only saw what they thought they saw.
He was about to sit back and relax as the doorbell rang.
He opened the door and looked into Lois Lane's angry face.
"Clark Kent!" She called.
"I've got a chicken to pick with you!"
"Oh oh..."

“Mmm,” one of her friends said, the connotation clear, as she practically leered at Laura’s dad. “He’s even better looking in person than he is on television.”

Several friends giggled. “He certainly fills out that suit,” another friend said.

Laura scoffed. “You realize he’s old enough to be your father,” she said, raising her eyebrows. “In fact, he already is someone’s father,” she continued, referring of course to the Crimson Superman. His picture was all over the media, especially on those teen magazines and social media sites her friends frequented, and her friends would have no doubt who she was talking about.

“Yeah, but he’s also an alien,” the first friend said. “Biology for him probably works differently.” She shrugged, then turned to gaze at her subject some more.

Clark went quiet, listening, then winced when he heard the soft voice coming from under his cape.

“Why can’t I be a baton twirler?” she asked with a lowered chin and raised eyes.

Clark chuckled as he placed a hand on her shoulder. “You can be a baton twirler. But only if you are a good girl and pull yourself together.”

“You saved me, Thank you!” Clark said still recovering from a long time in the cage.

Tommy sighed, “After I tried to kill you, you saved me from my curse and I can't repay you for that! Please go to my niece, Lois now and but don't tell her I was here.”

Ah yes, The Police. He had never really appreciated their music for some reason, he chuckled to himself...but this...this was a song about Lois. His Lois. As he left he caught his reflected image in a dark office window. His eyes gleamed with passion.
