That old ghost of ine, part 3
***
Lois entered the Daily Planet Newsroom with mixed feelings.
She was insecure, she could not deny that. How should she deal with this situation in front of her friends?
Clark was dead to Perry, Jimmy, and everyone else!
Well, duh, he's dead, Lois remembered mentally.
Still, it did not feel that way to her-not since she could communicate with his mind or whatever it was.
"Lois, are you alright?" Perry's voice sounded harsh and worried in her ears.
"Um, well, not really ..." That was not really a lie. It did not feel right at all.
"How are you?"
"I do not really know..."
And so it was. She had no idea how to handle this situation.
A mental image formed before her eyes: she was chasing a story, having a conversation with Clark to help her work out what brought her to another question.
<< Can you really touch things? I mean, in some stories ghosts can mess up glasses or something. How are you actually moving? Are you hovering? And how ... >>
<< Lois, you're talking. >>
<< Oh, sorry! But how is that now? >>
***
Good question. When he started talking to Lois, he had not thought about these things.
How could he answer this without his whole building of lies collapsing?
<< Yes, I think hovering is just fine >>
Well, at least that was not really a lie.
The thing about moving ...
He had an idea - but that was risky. very risky.
<< Clark? Are you ... still there? >>
<< Yes, I had to gather shortly. I could try something. >>
<< What? >>
Now or never, Kent. Go all the way!
>> I thought I could try to solidify myself, well, or something >>
<< You mean like an astral projection? >>
<< Something like that, yes. >>
Stupid idea! Very stupid idea!
But he wanted to face Lois, to look at her directly. You no longer need to secretly watch them through the window.
Some of his skills were good.
He could easily hover above the ground to make himself surreal.
But would Lois then recognize him as Superman?
And if it really was that bad, the little voice in the back of his mind wanted to know?
>> What's wrong? >>
Shit, he had to be more careful about what he thought until he found out exactly how this telepathy thing worked.
<< I just said, it can not be so bad to give it a try. >>
Somehow it was much easier to lie if she did not see his expression.
<< I have a neighbor who knows something about that, Star. She's kind of weird, but maybe she knows more about it. >>
What was he just indulging in?
<< I will talk to her this afternoon >>
<< Do you know what you are doing until then? >>
Clark wanted to continue to participate in her life, he could not help but to let it.
<< Perry wants me to write your obituary. Somehow macabre, when I think about our situation. >>
<< If you want, I'll help you with this. >> bit Clark.
***
Lois almost thought he could hear the grin in his mind.
<< You believe that, Kent. I'll write that and if you ask nicely, I'll read it to you ... or can you read it yourself? >>
<< We will see, Lois. We will see. >>
