Feedback folder.

This story is only short, 4 chapters at the absolute maximum (though 3 is more likely).

Clark hung up the phone and heaved another sigh. Could he still be Superman, knowing that most of Metropolis wouldn’t hesitate to condemn him if something else happened?

Did he even want to try?

Considering how quickly the city turned on Superman, there is a huge decision to be made.

Let's hope it is the right one. grovel

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

Ah, excellent question. Seems like the entire city turning on Superman so quickly would be cause for him to pack and run. That was certainly how he lived his life before Metropolis - as soon as someone got a hint of his abilities, he'd take off. The motivation here is different, but the result could very well be the same. How important is the Daily Planet or his budding relationship with Lois at this point in time that would compel him to stay? He has had jobs and relationships before, but that never stopped him from moving in the middle of the night before. Interesting idea for a fic!

Oh, no. Poor Clark. It's not fun being rejected by a populace you thought were your friends. At least Lois hadn't turned on him. /Hugs to Clark/

But if Superman doesn't return, doesn't that mean that Lex wins? How will Lois find Superman if he's not showing his face anymore? Will he not even don his Suit if there's a major natural disaster elsewhere? What can Lois change Superman's mind? Will she put herself in danger to bring him back? Let's hope she discusses her plan with Clark first. lol Yeah. Right.

I like this premise. I hadn't considered that Superman might leave after he was welcomed back, but Clark has a point. Everyone turned on him too quickly. Superman is so overpowered that he can't operate effectively as a superhero without overwhelming public support. On top of that, Clark's feelings have been deeply hurt. Everyone hates to be scorned for being different and to feel isolated and alone. Knowing for sure that there is no one on Earth that is remotely like you would compound that immeasurably.

"It is a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then...he shoots fire from the skies, and it is difficult not to think of him as a god. And how fortunate we all are that it does not occur to him." -Batman (in Superman/Batman #3 by Jeph Loeb)
