Hi Vicki! Quick one before nighty nighty time  "Hey, Superman!"
The call caught Clark's attention as he flew through Metropolis. Drone? Or did Lois blow up again. His patrol had uncovered nothing more nefarious than a kite stuck in a tree, a skateboarder who'd broken his arm when a stunt had gone awry, and tour bus with a flat tire. Is it bad if I mentally rewrite this to ‘the kite crashed into the skateboarder who then stumbled into the path of the bus and got his wing clipped as the bus swerved into an oncoming train trying to avoid the skateboarder.’? Clark made a mental note to address the issue with Murray after he found out what the "pressing matter" was this time. El-crest shaped Viagra in Superman blue? Proceeds go to an orphanage charity, minus a manipulation fee for Mr. Brown, of course. Murray was on the balcony, scanning the skies for Clark. He grinned once the familiar blue, red, and yellow costume appeared in his line of sight, and he excitedly waved Clark into his landing. Clark lightly touched down and folded his arms across his chest. I just thought, if the Superman foundation would have a headquarter built during Season One, it could be a skyscraper taller than Lex Tower, with a huge El-crest on the side that’s facing Lex’s office balcony. Just saying… "Geez, wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something?" Yeah, the one without a Lois. You know I trust you and the board to make whatever decisions need to be made." Besides, you don’t want to steal from a guy with heat vision. Same as you don’t want to win against a Wookie. "Sometimes...they can be a bit...shall we say, set in their ways?"
"I do understand, and I'll speak with them again at the next meeting," Clark assured him. "So...why am I here?" For instance, Mr. Wayne is always hanging head down from the ceiling. It’s quite…distracting. And Ms. Prince, don’t get me started on her antics on how Superman’s cape must go the way of the Dodo. "So...why are we here again?" Clark prodded as they landed. He opened the door to the lobby, allowing Murray to step inside first. Some sort of party, I’m guessing. Or a bachelor auction, come to think of it… Stranger yet, not a single member of the hotel's staff asked him about the nature of his business. Typically, he was at least asked if he'd picked up on some kind of threat within the building, whenever he'd walk into any kind of establishment whilst in uniform. This time, no one said a word. It was almost like he was invisible. They think he needs to use the bathroom? "Yeah, yeah, they see you Big Guy," Murray assured him, as though reading his thoughts. "You'll understand the indifference of these people in a few minutes. Feel a little strange to you?" Oh, Superman Impersonation Day! I especially like the Lois Lane Superman and the one with the black cowl and cape wearing a paper-El-crest taped to the Kevlar chest-armor of the suit. "The first annual Metropolis Superman convention," Murray said with pride.
"A...Superman convention?" Yes! A place where Superman can go and be picked up by lonely housewives or reporters. "Addicted?" Clark asked, his mind stuck on that one word. "Sounds a little...unhealthy." /points at Lois/ "Weren't you ever a kid? Didn't you worship the guys like...I dunno. The Lone Ranger or Luke Skywalker?" Or…Darth Vader? Clark found himself without an argument. "So, this is what you wanted to show me? A Superman worshipping celebration?" He smiled a bit, to let the man know he was talking tongue in cheek. You know, I wonder if they could bring the Cult of Rao to Metropolis and get a tax break for the Superman foundation as the local headquarters of Superman’s religion. I thought it best if you helped to picked the winners. After all, who knows you better than you? Am I right or am I right?" /waits for a Clark Kent look alike to be standing up there on the stage. Full on tie and glasses, of course./ Still, he couldn't be expected to show up at every little event they held. To be fair…There were probably less people in the Washington Mall when President Garner was sworn into office. Chocolate bars in wrappers with his face on them. He should buy one of those and a Clark bar for Lois. "Barry Letterman," Murray said as the other sauntered away. "He's a professional look-alike. I've run into him a couple of times. Maybe Superman should hire him as a decoy when there’s an abundance of crazed fangirls. Or during bank robberies that feel like a setup so someone can shoot Superman with a Kryptonite bullet. There’s an awful lot of those… Murray laughed. "You think he's good, you outta meet Dean. Could be your identical twin, down to every freckle, mole, and voice inflection." "Eh, guy's an actor. Came in about...oh, a month ago. Wanted to make sure we'd truly given a green light to Warner Brothers to make a Superman Adventure Hour show. No surprise, he's playing you." Oh boy. A show about the adventures of Superman always rescuing his girlfriends, like Mayson Drake and Lori Lemaris, and Diana Prince. Oh, yeah, and that one reporter chick. Linda Queen or Duke or something or other. LOIS:  "Chris is an old friend," Murray explained. Clark simply nodded. Yes, but isn’t he a bit too tall for Superman? /imagines middle aged farmers pushing out rocket-shaped strollers/ parading around doing their best to look and even sound like himself. The female group should be fascinating. CLARK: That one. The blonde one. Number 7…Kara Danvers. She’s a dead ringer. Murray nodded. "Glad you liked it. So, let's say we make this a regular thing then? Assuming your not, I dunno, stopping a mudslide or negotiating a peace treaty or something."
Clark chuckled. "We'll see, Murray. We'll see."  LOIS: So, he was hugging several women who he has first chosen to be the best looking? CLARK:  Fun story. Things one can make from a quote for 500 please.  Michael PS: Sorry if I went a bit overboard with the FDK

What a delightful story! I especially liked the cameos. I expected Lois to show up in the women's competition, instead of being at the Planet. Glad she really was working.

Wow, DC, it sounds like you really know your fan-con stuff. Must have been hard doing all the research for this story. Don't forget to write it off on your taxes. I'm surprised Clark hadn't been informed about the fan-con earlier (especially since he's been seeing a lot of Murray lately). But then again, Murray loves to surprise him with stuff. (Did Murray tell Clark about the TV show, before giving approval, too?) I did wonder what Lois was covering that could possibly be more important than THIS! Loved all the cameos. Fun story.  El-crest shaped Viagra in Superman blue? Proceeds go to an orphanage charity, minus a manipulation fee for Mr. Brown, of course. Wouldn't that hurt to swallow?

I actually DID consider mentioning some of the others, but it just didn't fit well. By you know they were there, for sure!

You know, I almost wrote in Lois as a contestant, but since it would have made the fic way too long for a response for a 5 year old to hear, I opted not to do it. But I was so sorely tempted!

You can say I have a little convention experience. (4 or 5 Xena cons, 2 Icons, a Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, and the Boston SuperMega Fest.) No Comic Cons to date, but I do want to go to at least one, maybe when the kids are a little bigger and I don't need the stroller. I've never dressed up/done the costume contests, but I've always admired the people who do. (Their costumes are typically stunning.) I think Murray wanted to get the drop on Superman. After all, how can he say no when he's already there and seeing what's going on? I'm thinking the TV show was one of the (probably many) things Murray didn't run by Clark. (He probably forgot with all the other things he's been bugging Clark about lately.) You can be sure that, whatever Lois is working on, she's MAD to be missing out on the convention! Glad you had fun with the story!

It's not the memorabilia or the photo opportunities or the chance to win a contest. It's the fun. Meeting people with the same interests. Making new friends. I see why these kinds of conventions are so popular." That is the main reason why I used to attend Star Trek conventions! It was a great way to meet people who share the same interests. Best of all it was a lot of fun. Great reason for Superman to fly across the street!

And now Clark has a perfect excuse for anyone who thinks he looks like Supermen - "I'm entering a look-alike competition" I did this with Supergirl in Five Dates Supergirl Didn’t Enjoy… And One She Did; she comes first in the beauty competition, second in the look-alike category, and drops out of the weight-lifting section at 28 kg. Overall that gets her third place.

It's not the memorabilia or the photo opportunities or the chance to win a contest. It's the fun. Meeting people with the same interests. Making new friends. I see why these kinds of conventions are so popular." That is the main reason why I used to attend Star Trek conventions! It was a great way to meet people who share the same interests. Best of all it was a lot of fun. Great reason for Superman to fly across the street! Yeah, the spirit of the conventions is a huge draw for me. And, of course, getting to meet some of the actors. It's such a great time, and usually everyone is super nice. Can't beat it! Glad you enjoyed the story!

I liked this one! The way I write it is that she wears contacts in her secret identity, changing the colour of her eyes to a less vivid blue, pretends to be a fan-girl who copies Supergirl's hair-style etc., and keeps the trophy she got for the contest as proof that she's doing it.
