For those of us who don't speak French, we can only assume she means the Avenger. I'm also guessing that he's not actually dead, but more shot or left for dead. Good thing Cedric feigned illness the night before.
Yes, Cedric was a bit too confident when he left to rescue the unknown wealthy carriage. I fear that carriage carried none other than Lucius himself! Jacques has every right to fear, especially since we know that Lucius is springing a trap for the Avenger.
