Overall I liked the chapter.

One nitpick and it is purely a personal preference. The scene where Superman confronts the clone. I preferred the series version where Clark confronts him in the Clark persona instead of the Superman persona. First I prefer Clark rescuing Lois and second Clark's strength seem to confuse the clone more than he would have been by Superman's strength. Of course in your version the possibility of Clark outing himself as Superman to save Lois from harm is not an issue but some reason, I just liked the other approach better. Others will probably differ...

I loved the part where Lois figures out who/what the impostor is. The "Give me a little credit" line was priceless. In other stories the idea that Lois has that she could not contribute to this partnership (she may have had that back in GGGOH-M and I have forgotten) shows up and Clark has to convince her that she is any integral part of the partnership and that he could not do this without her. I love your pushing it out front what she contributes, the out of the box thinking that seems to laser focus in on the solution/answer.

thanks

Mike

This line made me chuckle, since Bizarro is an imperfect duplicate of Superman in the comics.

"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”

This version of Vatman is better than the series because I was always confused by the confrontation between Clark and the clone. What did Clark think he was doing facing off with 'himself' in front of Lois?

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

That scene was always a problem for me. Either Lois was TOTALLY clueless or just overwhelmed with what was happening not to see CK=SM from that encounter. Only SM would be able to stop the clone.

Lois has an intuition that is unique to Lois. She is able to fit the puzzle pieces together even before all of the pieces are visable.

Believe it or not, that was in the script. In the Smallville series they did create a Bizarro character.

Thanks for the pep talk.

Yes, As I said in an earlier reply I thought that particular scene was a mistake. In the series they were trying to place Clark in difficult situations that should have revealed his secret, but they kept Lois clueless. At times it was very unrealistic.

I agree with Morgana that I like this version of Vatman better than cannon. While I could understand him rushing to Lois's defense, it never made sense to me that he'd do it as Clark. I just didn't think he'd take the risk of revealing himself to the clone.

As for Lois,it was ridiculous she would remain clueless even after she recovered from the shock of the situation. It was too obvious that only Superman could take on the clone. And I always thought she'd go over and over that encounter in her mind until she was enlightened. If nothing else because she'd be terrified for Clark.

I agree with Ken it was definitely unrealistic to keep Lois clueless in multiple situations. After the writers/producers created a strong female lead who would order Clark around and was supposed to be the best investigative reporter, I found it demeaning to have her be so clueless in such obvious situations. I did read somewhere that the pilot was planned for a series 10 pm time slot (more adult) and then the series aired during a family time 8 pm originally. Perhaps they were writing more for children at this point and thought they had to make it obvious to the audience that Clark had Superman's strength?

Great job Ken!

While I agree that it would make logical sense to go to Lois's aide as Superman, I liked the idea that Clark was so afraid of what the impostor would do that he did not even think to change, he HAD to protect Lois from the impostor regardless of the potential cost. What bugged me about the series version was that Lois was clueless that 'ordinary' Clark could fight a version of Superman to a draw but in this story that was not in play.

As I said it is a purely personal interpretation and obviously only my view...

Thanks for coming out of what amounts to lurker status to make a comment. I take it as a compliment that in the almost full year that you have been registered this is one of the stories you have chosen to comment on. I appreciate your commendation, greatly.

I don’t know if you have been following the series from the start, but I did comment that there are a number of errors in the original series that I would, in my own way, attempt to correct. This is one of them.

If you read carefully, I changed things a bit. I had Clark appear later than Lois would have liked. In the episode, she didn’t expect Clark to show up and defend her honor. She thought she was meeting with Superman, although he was acting strangely. The reason for the delay was he stopped a mugging. He would have done that in the Suit so it made sense for him to appear in the Suit.

Also, they suspect that Luthor is involved so they didn’t want to give the clone any reason to link Clark with Superman and possibly passing that knowledge on to Luthor.

We’ll see just how well that worked out, later.
