Hi FoLCs!

This is Kerth Quiz #7 - Best First Kiss

Instructions are blatantly copied/linked from last year’s Kerth Quizzes (or even further back than that ).

SPIFFY DISCLAIMER THINGY! All the stories featured in this quiz qualify for the Best First Kiss Category, but this quiz is not a stamp of recommendation for nomination. There are other stories which qualify for this category, but this quiz only covers 10 randomly chosen ones.

Recommendations for other eligible stories are *very* welcome and encouraged!

QUIZ RULES: Two points for getting the story and author from the quote; one point for getting it from the excerpt. Specify which is which, or you'll automatically get one point instead of two. (Also, don't forget to mention which number you're answering.) Open hard drive and archive, *don't* forget to snip the excerpts in your replies, and don't forget the spoiler space when you post in the replies thread. Plus, shiny gold stars for those who recognize their own stories (which, sadly, is harder than it looks, but mostly in the Epic and Long Story Categories though).

The DEADLINE for entries for this quiz is Saturday, February 7, 2015, by 11:59 p.m (Pacific Time Zone).

More elaborate quiz instructions can be found here .

Please post your answers HERE .

Good luck!
Susan

Twice, she’d been sure Clark was going to kiss her, and twice, they’d been interrupted by his parents.

QUOTE #3:
There was a reasonable chance that this position would last through to the credits.

QUOTE #4:
Lois didn’t even go to parties, much less wander around looking through jockstraps and dirty underwear.

QUOTE #5:
He was told to look for the woman with the red carnation. It was tacky, horribly tacky, but true.

QUOTE #6:
Commodore Lane had patrolled the British waters for years but something seven months ago had set him on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean to take up the mantle of Commander of the Caribbean waters.

QUOTE #7:
The Grand Hotel certainly lived up to its name.

QUOTE #8:
Clark really and truly wasn’t interested in her for more than a friend; although, if she stripped for him again, he might take friends with benefits.

QUOTE #9:
I think I better have my milk quickly and then scuttle back upstairs again.

QUOTE #10:
"Yeah, there's an old law on the books, here in Kansas that says, if a guy spends the night with a girl, they are automatically married.”

EXCERPT #1:

The knocking on the door resumed, but Clark ignored it. Instead he gently framed her face between his hands, stroking his thumbs lightly over her cheeks, and looked at her as if he were memorizing her face. He bent down and left one last, small kiss on her lips.

"Good bye, Lois."

EXCERPT #2:

Clark sighed happily as he replayed the memories. True, he hadn’t been able to attempt another kiss this evening — his parents had been sitting with them the entire time, and when they’d gone to bed, they’d graciously offered to escort Lois upstairs so she could share their flashlight on the stairs. The best he could manage was a quick trip upstairs while Lois was washing up in the bathroom to warm her sheets with his heat vision. It wasn’t exactly the way he’d prefer to keep her warm overnight … but he had to content himself with doing what he could.

EXCERPT #3:

Lois sighed and rolled onto her back. Clark pushed himself as far into the couch as he could, giving her as much room as possible. She dropped her head to the cushion, brought her hand down to her stomach, and stared up at the ceiling, smiling. It was as if he could read her mind through that smile. This film was going on their ‘list’. Some films were watched only once, some went on the list and were watched repeatedly.

EXCERPT #4:

Clark didn’t look tired at all. It occurred to Lois that once they got home he’d have to ride his bicycle back to wherever it was that he lived.

As he slid into the seat beside her, she said, “I can’t thank you enough for tonight.”

He smiled slightly. “It was the weirdest not-date I’ve ever had.”

“Do you go on a lot of not-dates?”

“This is my first one,” he said. His lips quirked.

Did he mean he hadn’t gone to a lot of events just as friends, but that he had been on a lot of dates? Or did he mean that he hadn’t been on a lot of dates either?

She’d have heard if he was dating anyone at school, but Clark seemed like the type who’d be fine dating someone from out in the community. He was good at keeping secrets.

EXCERPT #5:

He released her hand and moved his hands to her waist. The movement caused his laughter to subside, leaving him breathless. “I wonder what happened to Mayson and Dan,” he said, his voice sounding rough to his own ears.

She gazed up at him, and he realized how intimate a gesture it had been to take hold of her. He was about to step away when her arms came up and rested on his shoulders. “Would you think me heartless if I said that I didn’t care?”

“You? Never,” he said softly. She couldn’t be heartless because she had already stolen his heart.

EXCERPT #6:

Kal stood on the bridge as the sun set over the horizon. The stunning reds, pinks, orange and golds shot across the sky and reflected in the ocean. As the deck gradually became quieter throughout the evening Kal found his thoughts becoming gradually darker. The solitude which stalked him every day felt more tangible. The mystery of his background had always set him apart. He felt the metal of his medallion heavy against his chest, hiding behind his shirt. He didn’t need to look at it to know the symbol engraved on one side and the name etched on the other.

Kal.

It was the only truth he knew. His name was Kal. Apart from that, his true origins were a mystery.

EXCERPT #7:

There was something about his smile. The more she stared at the picture, the more Lois saw something she couldn’t describe. It was almost as though he was looking directly at her, smiling just for her.

He was handsome, but that alone wouldn’t have caught her attention. She’d dated attractive men in the past. Yet even if she hadn’t seen him on and off throughout her life, Lois suspected that she’d have been drawn to this picture.

There was something intimate about his expression, as though he was sharing something private just between him and her.

EXCERPT #8:

“I’ll be forever in your debt,” he replied from behind her.

“If you keep playing like that, you will be,” she said, realizing that she was walking down the street alone. Turning around, she saw that Clark was holding the door to her building open for that blonde woman in 404 with her two towhead kids, babe in her arm, and another one on the way.

Bet she isn’t thinking that ‘blondes have more fun,’ now, Lois thought to herself.

EXCERPT #9:

I don't know why they've fallen into this 'friendship' thing. I thought that when she found out his secret it would be the final factor in their inevitable journey to … love. But, for some reason, they both seem to think that the other just wants to be friends.

Pah.

I wish I could tan their hides.

EXCERPT #10:

After the dance, Rachel addressed Lois, "You know, for a city gal, you sure can dance!"

Lois couldn't help rubbing it in a little and said, "You're not so bad yourself, but when you 'Tush-Push', you need to add a little," she demonstrated, "at the end."

Rachel was mortified; this city girl had the gall to tell her how to dance! She just stood there and watched as Lois wrapped her arm around Clark's and they moved off. She was so mad she felt she could spit nails! That was supposed to be her walking off with Clark.
