Mobi and epubs for fundraiser

Have you ever wished that you could have all of the stories from your favorite author complied into a single file suitable for download to you Kindle or Nook?

Imagine – Nan’s entire Home series put into chronological order and put into .mobi format so that you could have it read to you while you drive, relax or work around the house.

How about all of Wendy’s stories, Female Hawk’s?

They could be yours for a donation to the mbs.

4/18 edit - I would like to think my time is worth something, but I don't want to set too high a price. Shall we say a sliding scale. Let's set a minimum of $10 and if your request is a large one you should scale the donation up from there.

Simply send me a request. Let me know what author or list your titles and I will produce the compilation. It will come back to you in your e-mail.

My e-mail is ken.janney@kjanney.com. Please put Lois and mobi in the subject line.

So far I have had one request.

The request is for the "Home" series by Nan Smith.

I am preparing it and once it is finished, any further requests can be satisfied, literally within hours.

ED 4/18

Bobbart's When the Sky Falls/After Nightfall is ready.

The promised file - Nan's Home series has been delivered. I hope that we will have a comment on the quality soon.

I am working on Nan's Dagger Series.

Hi, Ken.

1. I'd like to request a copy of Nan's home stories.
2. I'd also like to request a copy of Wendy's "Eternity" trilogy. (If you are still planning to convert all of Wendy's stories, I would be interested in that. Let me know.)

Not sure how to do the offer of a donation amount, but I figure we can work that out. Let me know.

Hi Ken!

I'll also be standing in line for some Home. I'm going to make a single donation when everything's said and done to keep the transaction fees down.

wave Michael

PS: I won't say no to Wendy's, Corrina's, Kathy's and so many other writers, either, but it's more a matter of not going overboard blush

Hi Ken
I made my donation yesterday and received my thank-you e-mail.
I would love Nan Smith's Home series in epub format. But more important would you happen to know how to download it to my Nook. I'm using Windows Vista and I do not know how to download. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Linda Hoffman
I do not own a Nook, so all I could do was provide general Windows download instructions. Linda actually came up with her own solution -

Quote
Hi Ken
I received the file and tried to download it to my nook but I couldn't.
It not the file it's me. I tried every way I could think of, but no luck. ThenI got a brilliant idea. I emailed your email back to me. My email shows up on my computer and my Nook. It came up with a msg asking if I wanted it added to my library since it was in epub format and I answered yes so it is now on my Nook.

A little round about but I have it on my nook and I'm a happy camper thanks to you.

The cover is neat. I'm not registered on the boards, I just lurk. Otherwise I would gladly rave about all your work. Oh, I forgot to say I can read the file just fine

You did a GREAT job.
thanks

I received a second request from Linda, this time for Nan’s ‘Dagger’ series.
I hope to deliver it before the end of the week.

Hi Ken:
I'll take Nan's Home & Dagger Series in EPUB. I have Tank's already. Also you said something about all the stories that won the Kerth's this year. I'll take that too.
I'm going to give a basic donation and then add on any of the story offers I win and send one check to KSaraSara when all is said and done.
I'm hooked up with the Kobo site for books now that Sony Reader has folded. I've got to say the transition was smooth.
regards
Artemis

For anyone trying to figure out how to transfer Ken's files to their e-reader, I have just one word for you: CALIBRE laugh

Calibre is free e-book management software. You install it on your computer and, when you run it, you can import files into Calibre for transmission to your e-reader. If the file is already in the right format, no further action needed. If it's not, Calibre can convert most formats to the correct one - for example, if you had a file in MOBI format, it could convert to EPUB for you if that's what you needed.

Connect your e-reader to your computer via the cable. Calibre will recognise that your e-reader is connected, and you'll see an option to send selected items to your device. In a second or two, your file(s) will be on your device.

Calibre also allows you to manage files that are already on your device - delete, change title etc. I love it.

I've got an even easier way to get stories onto a reader. It's called - wait for it - pdf (aka Adobe Acrobat). Yep, been around forever, but it will convert any Word, RTF, or other text into plain old pdf and load it on to your reader, no problemo. The only interesting thing is that the author is your own name because you loaded it.
I also learned another trick. I have massive print jobs I farm out to a local print shop. They have me send it in pdf. (No, it's not fanfic, but artworks.)

Kindle will also accept pdf formatted content, however I have not been able to get the text to speech to work with it.

I've never known that .pdf had any speech capability. I like to read in quiet and don't like to be read to. Besides my stuff is artwork and that doesn't talk.

Prep started.

Which format is desired? Epub or mobi?

Both will be available.

Hey Ken wave

How 'bout $5 a story for:

Sue S - Faustian Bargain
Wendy Richards - Faux Pas
Caroline K-Field of Dreams
Chris Mulder-Meet Me in Kansas City
Chris Mulder-My Mother Made it for Me

I'll e-mail you proof of payment, and my e-mail address...

Thanks so much--can't wait clap
Laura

Almost forgot--I read fanfic on either my ipad or my iphone--but, embarrassingly enough, can't remember which format that that would be in.... blush

Just to give Ken credit. He is creating .mobi (Kindle) format e-books of his MatchMaker series for me since I had already contributed.

Ken,

Since the campaign is lagging a bit how much more for a copy of the Home series? Maybe all of Female Hawk's stuff?

thanks

Mike

Okay, here's the deal. Corrina has 18 stories in the archive. Her 2 latest are not there as yet. One of her stories is a huge > 2 meg file. That will require a lot of time and effort.

A couple of her shorter pieces are already prepped and ready to go.

Please allow your conscience to guide you as you consider your donation.
