I've gotten to the point where it said that I should receive the password for #loisclark. Just wondering what the standard lagtime is for getting it?

It isn't an automated thing. You have to wait for one of the admins to get the message and send you the info. smile It took me about half a day or so to get mine. laugh

I never did get one. I gave up, but since the Kerths are coming up, I'm going to have to give it another go.

Hey guys,

Everyone who would like to join the #loisclark IRC channel must go here: http://www.nfanfic.net/loisclark.html and submit the form. If you have already done so, please contact me or El via the contact form here: http://www.nfanfic.net/contactus.html or click on my email icon on this post.

We might be just a little behind because of the opening of the Kerth noms and some real life stuff going on.

Sorry for any delays but we'll get you straighten out before the Kerths.

Thanks, Annette. That's the first time I've been directed to the form. Now if I can just get everything to work together. It's asking for my name. I'm curious. Will my name show up to everyone? Or do I get to choose a nick?

Well, it's been a long while since I did it, but, far as I know, you can fill in Classicalla there and that will be fine.

I mean, I must have used LabRat, because I don't use anything else in FoLCdom. laugh

Aramis: Yes, sorry.
Athos: No, no, by all means, let's keep things suicidal.

Classicalla : If you are talking about the actual mIRC program I suggest you use a fake name. You don't have to use your real name. Anyone that does a whois on you can see what you put in for a name. I would also put in a fake email.

Your nickname is seperate from that information and you can change it at any time. laugh

This thread made me wonder...

For the kerth-award ceremondy thingy, there's another stage (or whatever you'd call it), right? How do I get the password to that one, or is it the same as the #loisclark password?

(Yes, I know I sound like a stupid rookie, but I am in fact a stupid rookie grumble first kerth awards for me laugh )

Sorry for being slightly off-topic, but I thought, well, since we're talking IRC anyway ...

There won't be a password for #kerths and #kerthchats. They're left open so that everyone can enjoy the ceremony and the accompanying chat.

Can someone point me to the thread with the explanation of how to get on the IRC? I still can't seem to get that to work very well either.

So is the IRC free? I thought it was, but I'm being asked to pay a fee.

Using IRC is free.

mIRC is a program which allows you to access IRC. The situation is similar to these boards. They're free. You don't pay anything for using the site. But... in order to use the site, you have to be online. Odds are, you're paying someone for that.

mIRC is shareware. Free to download. Free to try (for the first 30 days, I think). But if you like it and use it a lot, they'd appreciate it if you gave them some money for it. You can keep using it as long as you want without paying, but you'll get a reminder every time you open it which says that you're past the evaluation period and you really should pay.

There are other ways to get to IRC. Other programs. Some websites. But they're not as easy or convenient, they don't have the same features, and your fellow FoLCs won't be as familiar with them, since most of us use mIRC.

Make sense?

So do you actually get a password, or do you just have to register?

When you register mIRC (by paying for it), you get a registration code with instructions.

To access some channels (chat rooms) on IRC (including #loisclark), you need an access key (or password). That's to prevent random people from wandering in and bugging everyone. As with many places on the 'net, IRC has no shortage of random people who take the relative anonymity of the 'net as license to be jerks.

So you do get a password for LoisClark? Right? I got something thanking me for my registration (to Lois Clark - not the Mirc).

Clasicalla, if you need any help with the program once you get it all registered we can arrange a time and I'll come on and help you with any commands and such you need help with.

I offer that to anyone else who is having trouble as well. Just let me know.

Is anyone on IRC tonight? I logged in (I think) but I seem to be the only person there. <sigh> I'll stick around for as long as the free WAN I lucked into tonight holds out. laugh

ETA: And yes, I'm sure I'm in the right place. I have a message at the top of the screen telling me to contact Annette if I run into problems.

Lois: You know, I have a funny feeling that you didn't tell me your biggest secret.

Clark: Well, just to put your little mind at ease, Lois, you're right.
