Charles Stross (Scots SF author of renown) has just posted his "official" policy on fanfic. I just wish everyone else was so reasonable (see especially the blog he links to for a VERY anti-fanfic author)
There is a link in the comments to http://www.jim-butcher.com/news/000354.php where that author asks for a creative contents non commercial license on any fanfic of his stuff. Seems like a reasonable request.
