Has anyone at this site read the book: Rhett Butler's People?

I've asked at a Gwtw group and most didn't like the book. They said the parts about Rhett were good but that the author had no feel towards writing Scarlett O'Hara at all.

I just wanted to get someone else idea all the book one that wasn't perhaps such a fan of Gwtw.

Me me me! smile1

I thought it was a bit crap, although I certainly don't regret buying it. But then I am a GWTW fan.

Actually, the main problem I have with it is what some reviewer pointed out far more eloquently than I can - that what makes an emigma (Rhett) so appealing is the fact that you don't know him. Imo, McCaig humanises him/deconstructs his psyche to such an extent that he becomes just another ordinary character.

And Rhett's supposed to be so much more than that. In Scarlett Alexandra Ripley describes him as 'damaged, dangerous and unreachable'. But in RB's People he loses his mystery and with it his sexy bad boy image. I don't want him too nice.

I agree about Scarlett not being written right though.

And the end was too soap opera-ish. Tara? Yeesh!

Do you read GWTW fanfic? Cornorama rocks! smile
