I know it's kind of a juvenile, middle/high school math class thing (at least here in Maryland, USA), but today is PI day (3.14, 3/14, get it?), and I just LOVE any excuse to eat pie. Not that I have any pie to eat at the moment. Ah well. I guess this thread is for those who want to be goofy and celebrate pi with pie.

Now all you have to do is eat pie at 1:59.
Yeah, My high school geometry teacher did something special for pi day.
I think, therefore, I get bananas.
When in doubt, think about time travel conundrums. You'll confuse yourself so you can forget what you were in doubt about.
What's the difference between ignorance, apathy, and ambivalence? I don't know and I don't care one way or the other.

No, you guys are not geeks for knowing pi. I consider myself a geek for having memorized 70 decimal places of pi in high school (which was about 10 years ago) and never forgot it. 3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937510 5820974944 5923078164 Happy PI Day! EDIT: Oooh, was looking online and found this link on world records in memorizing pi decimal places. I know more than some on that list. malu

Why 1:59, Woody?
I only know pi to 8 decimals myself. But seeing your list there, malu, I can now say I know it to 10--as long as I remember that the 9th and 10th digits are 3 and 5.
ETA: Nevermind, Woody, I figured it out. (DUH to self)

I think Woody means so that you are eating pie on 3/14 at 1:59 (you know, following the decimal places ) EDIT: You figured it out. EDIT2: Today is Pi Day only here in the U.S. Everywhere else in the world it's 14/3. It would be Pi Day everywhere else on April 31st (31/4) malu

There IS no April 31st. April only has 30 days.

Oh, yeah! Didn't even think about that! Thanks, DSDragon. So, basically, there is no PI Day elsewhere in the world. malu

I, for one, don't mind celebrating PI(E) day! *g* Especially since two of my subjects happen to be English (fitting for cultural studies) and maths...

A wonderful phrase to remember the digits of pi. If you count the letters in each word you get the first eight digits: "May I have a large container of coffee." You can even add "Thank you" and get two more digits. Yeah, that's what I learned in school... ~Julia

you could even take a bite on the 26th second.
And if you say, "Thank you, Julia." you get an extra digit.

I heard today that some guy holds the world record for memorizing the most digits of pi. I cant remember how many digits exactly but it takes him 16 hours to recite the whole thing.

Well, that website that malu posted the link to above says that there's someone in India who can recite it to 43,000 digits.
