This seems too good a deal not to pass the word around to those of you in the US. Slickdeals.net is advertising an offer from Dell which would get you an Inspiron 6000 for about half the usual price. Or $500 off any other Dell laptop costing $1500 or more.

For the Inspiron 6000, you can get the $500-off coupon and a further $250 mail-in rebate, plus free shipping. For any other laptop - if you wanted a Pentium processor rather than a mobile Celeron - it's $500 off with the coupon.

The coupon expires on Saturday (4 February) or after the first 6000 customers have used it, so if you're looking for a laptop get in fast!

Here's the text from the slickdeals page:

Dell Home has $500 off $1499 coupon code WZHX6B81N9?926 for select Inspiron laptops (8600, 700m, 600m, 6000, and 1000). Expires 2/4 5:59am CST or after 6000 uses whichever comes first.

The best deal seems to be the Inspiron 6000 CM 1.5GHz 512MB 15" Laptop for $1526 - $500 coupon - $250MIR = $776 w/ free shipping. Upgrade the lcd screen to meet the coupon minimum. It is just released and is selling for $1050 w/ the same config over at Dell small business.

Inspiron 6000
$1526 - $500 - $250MIR = $776
Cel M 1.5GHz, 15" WSXGA, 512MB, 6.6lbs
Inspiron 600m
$1249 + $250 upgrades - $500 = $999
Pentium M 1.6GHz, 14.1" XGA, 4.98lbs
Inspiron 700m
$1349 + $150 upgrades - $500 = $999
Pentium M 1.6GHz, 12.1" WXGA, 4.1lbs
Inspiron 8600
$1349 + $150 upgrades - $500 = $999
Pentium M 1.6GHz, 15.4" WXGA, 6.9lbs

FYI, the CNET reviews of the 6000 are fairly negative. They recommend the 700m instead.

Do you know the most surprising thing about divorce? It doesn't actually kill you, like a bullet to the heart or a head-on car wreck. It should. When someone you've promised to cherish till death do you part says, "I never loved you," it should kill you instantly.
