I'm not sure many of you have seen this. My cousin emailed this to me and I found it extremely interesting. The answer blew me off. If you've never seen this before, do make a guess. I'm hopeful that some FoLCs, being very observant people, may actually see the answer. If you have seen this before, post anyway to say that you have, but don't reveal the answer yet. smile Presenting, the unusual paragraph....

This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out.

I have seen this before, but I can't remember what was unusual about it! Tho, after looking at it, I think I remembered/guessed. laugh

Ahhh!

It took a bit of thought, but I think I might know why it's unusual...!

Ooh, I think I might know why that paragraph is unusual...

PJ
(a totally unusual post goofy And sigs don't count!)

"You told me you weren't like other men," she said, shaking her head at him when the storm of laughter had passed.
He grinned at her - a goofy, Clark Kent kind of a grin. "I have a gift for understatement."
"You can say that again," she told him.
"I have a...."
"Oh, shut up."

Okay, I am probably really stupid, but the two people that are working with me on my stats project and I stared at this paragraph for about 10 minutes (yay procrastination) and none of us could figure out what was unusual about it!

I'm terrible at these things, so I'll just wait for somebody to tell me the answer. If I try to figure it out I'll just drive myself insane, and I don't need any more of that! laugh

Okay, I've tried and tried and now I give up. I know that as soon as someone tells me the answer I'm going see it. I feel like I'm really close and that it's something that should be really easy, but I just can't get it. Hurry up with the answer, I'm dying of curiosity.

I have one idea as to why it's unusual, but now I want to know if I'm right or not! Patience never was my strong point! grumble

I think I've got it too... but don't know whether I'm right or not. But, if I am right, then this is not an unusual paragraph. wink

Well, I thought I had the right answer but everyone else seems to have a different answer to me, so now I'm completely confused. goofy

I knew the answer before I finished reading the paragraph. But my mother was a proofreader by profession and my brother writes logic puzzles for a living, so it's in the genes. laugh

If you need to know the answer hit the solution link at this site http://www.greylabyrinth.com/Puzzles/puzzle003.htm

And so the answer is out. Turns out that I don't even need to give the answer after all.

From reading the posts, I can tell that those who said that they guessed the answer really did get the correct answer. And those who didn't... well, I didn't get it too. My cousin had to tell me the answer.

I'm just interested in Labrat's answer. Labrat, what did you think the answer was? And why did you think that your answer was different from the rest?

Amy, thanks for including that website. I'm looking through the other puzzles, and I haven't managed to solve a single one without looking at the solution. Tells you the level of my IQ huh? blush

My guess was different from the 'correct answer.' However, my answer was quite correct. smile1 laugh

Oh, turns out I did have the right answer.

What I was doing that was dumb was only looking at the sentence in brackets after nicks that everyone was putting in to prove they had the right answer. When, of course, everyone meant the paragraph or the entire post.

That mistake meant that I couldn't understand why people were saying the sentence was 'almost' odd when it didn't contain the letter. Should have been totally odd. <g> So that led me to think I had got it wrong somewhere and they were talking about something else entirely.

okay, I was definitely on the right track, I just gave up too quickly. Should have stuck it out and looked for a few more letters and I'd have got in. Anyway, this was fun. I like riddles and puzzles like this, even if I am really bad at them.

Well, Chief Pam, my first thought was that there wasn't any indentation. Of course, it's not strictly a paragraph, then. But then again, it kept saying that it was a paragraph. wink

Okay, my friends and I are officially morons. We were looking for something gramatically wrong wink . I don't think we read the whole thing.

It makes my conclusion that engineers are dumber than rocks oh so much more valid wink .
