Hi everyone! As you know, the Kerth ceremony will take place on IRC. A very special thank you to Artemis for finding out the date and time in various time-zones. Places with NO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME: Zulu & UTC: 10:30 p.m. Saturday April 4 Sydney, AUS: Sunday April 5, 8:30 a.m. New Zealand, Sunday April 5, 10:30 a.m. Eastern Brazil, Saturday April 4, 7:30 p.m. Western Brazil, Saturday April 4 6:30 p.m. Cairo, Egypt, also Johannesburg Sunday April 5, 12:30 a.m. US/Hawaii, Saturday, April 4, 12:30 p.m. Places with DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME: EDT: (New York, Washington D.C.) Saturday April 4, 6:30 p.m. CDT: (Midwest) Saturday, April 4, Saturday, 5:30 p.m. MDT: (not Arizona) Saturday, Saturday, April 4, 4:30 p.m. PDT: (Los Angeles, Seattle), Saturday, April 4, 3:30 p.m. Canada, Atlantic: Saturday, April 4, 7:30 p.m. Canada, Eastern: Saturday, April 4, 6:30 p.m. Canada, Western: Saturday, April 4, 3:30 p.m. London, Dublin: Saturday, April 4, 11:30 p.m. Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Zurich: Sunday, April 5, 12:30 a.m. Helsinki, Israel: Sunday, April 5, 1:30 a.m. K-Com needs your help! Not only do we need party-animals to make this huge fun and laughs and happiness, but we also need behind-the-scenes helpers to make the ceremony something special. We need presenters. All categories are open, and so you're free to choose whatever you feel like presenting. Presenting means doing a small speech explaining what the category entails (it can be fun or serious, whatever you prefer) then listing the nominees, and finally, announcing the winner and handing out the famous trophy. Just let us know, either here or in an email to K-Com or even to me, that you're willing to present and what category you'd like to be assigned to. I'll be updating this thread with the remaining categories as they get snatched. And don’t forget to vote - Only a couple of days left! Tricia

Can someone send me the link to the Archive's FAQ that talks about IRC? I'm completely clueless. The link to previous years' ceremonies did not work for me; I was hoping to get a clue by reading those.
thanks!

Tricia, I HEART YOU! I have ample time to get back from bridal shower hell! And oh yeah, don't I get to present BNA since I won it last year?

I looked at the time (Eastern, daylight-saving) listed for the Kerth ceremony (thanks, Artemis!) and... I don't get to participate. I work a 7-on, 7-off overnight shift, and I'll be at work during the ceremony. Darn it! I really hoped I'd be able to go (so to speak). 'Toc

In the past we've made the log available after the fact. So reading it gives you the feeling of being there even though you can't chat in the chat channel. Hopefully someone is doing that this time too. Artemis

I'd love to present a category if someone can be a backup for me and post my speech in case of small child interference! Any category is fine...maybe one of the early ones so there's less chance of distraction.

I know I went last year but it's been several years before that since I last attended... How long do they usually run? 90 minutes or so is what's coming to mind but... And the logs on the Kerth site are dead links so... Thanks . Carol

Oh I remember it being so much fun the last times... but 12:30 a.m isn't exactly early.

I have the logs from the past 2 years (I thought I sent them in last year? Should I send them again?), but there aren't any time stamps. From the starting/ending time from last year's raw log, it looks like it was about 2.5 hours.

Thanks Karen. Here's hoping the draft runs later than the 6pm DH guessed [it probably will] since it won't be over until 8 or so my time . Carol

I have a Mac and I'm trying to get an irc program installed - does anyone have any advice for me? I'd love to be there for the ceremony but I am having technical difficulties! I had parellels running but it is messed up and I don't have a virtual machine running now.
LOIS:I don't like you. MAYSON: Really? Oh god, that is such a relief - I don't like you either. LOIS: That makes me feel so much better

I don't know much but iirc IRCLE is the most popular Mac program... Course that could easily be what you're trying in which case I'm out... Carol

ircle is the most popular, but it's got a 30 minute limit when it's not registered. (Though *cough* there are ways around that) If you're using OS X, check out XChat Aqua , which is free. However, it takes a few more mouse clicks to get a side-by-side window (a very good idea when in both the Awards channel and the Chat channel!)

@ bellarata: I've been using Colloquy for Mac for a year or so. It's a really nice, easy one to use.

I'm bummed! I have a family obligation on that day and I don't think it's going to be over before the ceremony starts. I'll bring my laptop along though, just in case I can jump in for some of the festivities. I would have loved to have presented again. I totally botched it on my first try at presenting last year (I cut and pasted the wrong presentation - to my utter horror) so I need a shot at redemption. I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as excited/nervous this time. My hat is off to the whole K-Comm for making it all look so easy and seamless. You guys are amazing. Next year. Definitely!

If anyone needs practice with IRC, I'll most likely be online and in the channels for several hours before the ceremony. It depends on when I remember when I'm at work, but probably before 12pm EST. The only thing I may not be able to help with is sounds, but I'll look for a way before Saturday.

Sounds...
I tried to follow the sounds link on the Kerth site but it seems to be a dead link.
Is it just me or is the link really dead? Is the sound file available anywhere else?

I don't have a link to the regular Kerth sounds, but I do have a file from the Alt-Kerths available: http://www.2006.altkerthawards.com/sounds.zip It has a lot of the common sounds, and a few extras you won't be needing but can be amusing to listen to. Saskia

Thanks Saskia. I used your link and got that sound file. However, the dead link on the Kerth site kept bothering me and I decided to try again. I'm glad I did because I found the sounds! I went to the Kerth Awards site and started trying out "likely" addresses. This was the one that worked. http://www.kerthawards.com/sounds.html Bob

I'm sure this is probably listed somewhere right in front of my face, but I'm kind of half asleep, so could somebody tell me what time the Kerths are?

For some reason I was thinking *530* ET... /sigh/
Great. I'll still get to come for part of it but now tis more likely I'll have to leave early or at least be in and out...

Missouri is CDT so it *is* 5:30. Indiana is EDT, so it is 6:30 Arizona doesn't do Daylight Time, so it is now the same as Pacific Time. If you have any question about where you are and when it is compared to EDT, try this site: http://www.worldtimezone.com/wtz007.php Artemis

Yes, I know that Artemis.
I was thinking it was 530 *EASTERN* which is *430* Central. It's not. DH is going to be home around 7 which means it'll be the middle of the ceremony rather than the end like I thought which means it's very likely that I'll end up missing the whole last hour or so rather than maybe just the last few minutes...

<sigh> I had thought about volunteering to present something... but then realized that we've made plans to go to a hockey game, to celebrate my son's birthday (and mine, too) tomorrow night. The game starts at 7pm, so I'll probably miss the whole ceremony. Everybody who's going... have a fabulous time. I'm sure K-Com is going to produce a terrific show. PJ

Last year was the first Kerth ceremony I attended, and I was looking forward to this year's, too. Alas, I got roped into an obligation without realizing what day it was and I won't be able to attend tomorrow, either.
