Perhaps it's a dud. Perhaps it's the wrong board. But people other than me did mention it too and I figure, why not... It could be fun This is the self-help-group for addicts of Carol's On The Other Hand. Hello, my name is Michael and I keep checking back after leaving FDK to a new OTOH-part at least once an hour to read the new FDK. I'm addicted to Carol fic and I need help.

Hello, I'm Anonyma, and I happen to check not only for new parts of OTOH to be posted, I also check the FDK thread as often as I can. Within reason (meaning about only once per half an hour when I'm online).

Yay! A place where I can meet like-minded and like-afflicted people, lol.
Yes, I too am addicted to Carolfic. I self-medicate by continuous refreshing and fdk appraisal, but it seems that the more I get, the more I need.
Any ideas?
Oh yeah--protocol: Hello, my name is Sonia.

Hello, I'm Mr D8a, aka James.
I sampled OTOH and then stayed away as long as I could but Elisabeth, my beloved Eve, enticed me back to this addictive fic and I have partaken yet again.
I tend to reist only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (NaNoWriMo guard in place) but I fall back again on Mondays. I am a sad and pathetic man.
Pray for me.

Hi, my name is JD, and I'm specifically checking the boards every midnight while I'm on vaca this month to read story updates.
Mannn it's just .5 steps forward 18 million steps back. I feel like we're constantly butting up against an ice wall of silence...but it can be broken down!!!

Well, I did manage to refrain form checking the boards for several hours. Of course, I wasn't awake during that time, so to James who manages to put writing in front of reading. That's a real achievement JD, I'd vote for sending them into the Sauna, or a lonesome tropical island, to break down the ice. Michael

Hmm. Maybe we should sent Carol into the sauna until she agrees to post everything at once? Anybody know where she lives?

Good idea, Mellie, and from her timezone, somewhere with Central Time.
More importantly, I just checked the boards and she's going to post soon again.

It's now been two hours since parts 70 and 71 were posted. It must be time already, no? Michael, who is feeling sort of lost right now without new Carol-fic. It really seemed like a good idea, cajoling for daily-posts. But when you think about it, even EOD-posts are too high a frequency. No, once you reach this level of angst, it's an all-or-nothing deal. Weekly posts at least allow you to live a healthy live 6 days of the week. But daily posts, that's just waiting for the next fix

What Carol is trying to say is that she doesn't live anywhere with central time, but eastern time... (ET, right?)

Huh? And actually, her location entry says Southwest Missouri (Central time). Of course, that would be too easy for me The timezone trick was, that Carol mentioned she would get to read it before midnight when MLT posted NPLH at midnight ET. Michael PS: Don't worry, Carol, those back vans aren't following you. They're just... from the phone company. So nothing to worry

So, let's try to find her and ask google. If we enter her first name and her family name (which she once provided on this forum), we only get about 149.000 hits. Doesn't look like much of a problem, does it? After all, there's still enough time between her posts to look through them.

And it even gives her a very easy way out: Carol just has to post so often that people don't have time for anything else Michael, who'd better stop boarding and get back to writing.

It's sort of like when Babylon 5 went to syndication. When it was on once a week, it was an interesting show. When you could see it five days in a row, it was so emotionally intense that you needed Saturday and Sunday to recoop. Maybe...I will probably be vilified for this, but here goes. Maybe she should only post on Mondays. But each post should be equal to 4 of her usual posts, of course. James

As in eight parts? But that still wouldn't work Of course, then we'd not get to read this all in one evening so we'd be right back to were we are now. /looks back at James' post. Oh, you mean *only* for parts. Not four days worth. Okay, now that's mean. Bring out the tar and the feathers, You know, James, I know exactly what you mean about B5. Only I had them all taped long before syndication (or our equivalent) and when S3 was done, I spent an entire Easter holiday-week with a B5 marathon. Nowadays, when I do watch the discs (yeah, I upgraded ) I do it slowly, one episode a day and 4 on a weekend or so. I can actually deal with that, given how I already know the show. Not that I don't give in an watch till the end of some of the more intense arcs But with all the Fanfic reading and writing, I didn't get around to it this year. I do think that's a good thing. I think. On the other hand, I have DS9 in my DVD-player this year, so that might help, too Michael, who begins to realize that joking about extreme posting schedules is all fun and play until somebody gets hurt.

Ok. so I suppose introductions need to come first. My name is grinch, and I'm ready to steal Christmas pretty darn soon if Carol doesn't post the entire story and its sequel in one shot. Why bother with once a week postings or multi-day postings? We can get it over with one shot. We can then request a sequel to the sequel so we can avoid those nasty withdrawal symptoms... I'm quite far away from Missouri, but am totally up for some tag team action. Anybody else in? Cutting phone lines seems a bit harsh, now stealing Christmas... Make the Clark hatred go away and make Clark and Lois fall in love. That's not asking a lot is it?

LOL! OTOH still isn't finished and neither is the sequel so I'm afraid posting what I have in one shot would be even more frustrating . UP - hopefully - will be finished this week and then back to OTOH to finish it. And if it's not finished early this week, probably back to OTOH anyway b/c I *will* run out of buffer next week [early Dec]. The last chapter - well, the one I'm currently writing - jumped 4 months unexpectedly, which is hurrying them along towards the resolution in the sequel faster than anticipated, but I'm not sure that jumping that far ahead is a good thing... /sigh/ But I can't really ask because that's giving too much away... There is potential for, if not a sequel, then a companion piece [sort of along the lines of LtL: Lucy's Story, but not quite]. There's also sequel possibilities, but that one's more likely as all I've got for the sequel is an A plot thing and everyone knows I hate A plots... There's also one that's been on my HD for nearly two years that I'm anxious to work on again... Everyone who's read what I have *loves* it but it needs major overhauling in parts so... Carol

For a sick round-table discussion sometime: So I had this dream last night that they broke the ice and started talking...and wow, Clark felt all this guilt because he wound up with a rich in-law and a beautiful wife and child, while Lana is having a crappy outcome of the situation with Tim...and Clark got Lois an awesome anniversary gift...although why it contained a Spessartine Garnet is beyond me... Tonya, we have a buffet of Double Fudge Crunch Bars, Ding Dongs, and Cream Soda over there by the wall. There's also some Double Choco Chocolate Chip ice cream James, how did you manage to stop with part 71? There's 72-75 still out there? /looks innocently while trying to hide the pointy tail and the horns. Sorry to hear that, James. But if it helps, being able to refrain form reading them illegitimately after reading 6 parts means you're doing very well with being strong. /hands James an achievement badge /checks mission briefs about Surveillance Carol 1 Hmm, was the guy dish-water blond, built like a cross between the coke-guy and Dean Cain and going by the name of Jack? If so, then it could be a problem with the switchboard not being plugged-in yet at our surveillance center upstate. You know, he was actually supposed to wait until *after* we were done on our end, but if he got the other job done sooner You know how it goes. Finish all surveillance ops by Thursday and have a long weekend down in Florida Michael

You don't have to be crazy to write or read Lois and Clark fanfic, but it helps.
And y'all are just plain nuts.

Carol, great to hear and on a slightly more FoLCy note: Great to hear about the TiVo. Now you can record all the shows for until AFTER you're done writing OTOH and UP and Sequel to TVOS Nancy, drugs bad. Don't do them Especially Fic. It's like chocolate for Lois. Okay, not sure if that makes any sense, but I'm not all that awake right now Michael

Um, you do realize it's been like 6 years since VOTS right? I read what I found of the sequel [like 10 pages], cringed, and realized I had no idea what I had planned for it. I know what I'm planning on working on when I'm done with OTOH and UP and it's not that... So sorry . Next chapter of OTOH is almost done - finally - some of the wording... argh! And I've already got a TIVO, this is just a new one . Carol

/Han Solo voice/ It's not my fault Originally posted by Terry Leatherwood: I'm not sure what the steps are, or even how many of them there are, but maybe others have more information. Terry mentioned in the FDK-thread something about steps. I'm not really sure if we would need one. After all, is there anyone here who actually wants to get over this addiction? And besides, unless somebody finds an alternative addiction, going cold turkey would be a really bad thing. The stuff would still be out there and eventually you'd cave and gobble up an entire week worth of OTOH, leaving you shaking and babbling. So the best we can hope for, is not checking the boards between posts. Sleeping helps in this department. Also working without an internet connection. Michael

I sleep, then got up by 7 am to check broads and wait. I refresh it per hour. Then I can't wait at work. When I'm closing I get on the net and check. So ready to read the next two it's scary. Michael I mean (Han Solo) thank you for the chocolates. I'm o.k. now. Going cold turkey been there still have some left over. Want some?

Thanks Terry for pointing me in this direction. Hi, my name is Melanie, and I'm addicted to Carolfic. When it's my day off, I find myself watching the clock while waiting for update time and frequently checking the boards just in case. When it's a workday, I check the boards as soon as I get home. I totally agree that Carol should just go ahead post the whole thing all at once, along with the next 2 sequels. That's not asking too much is it? Please excuse me while I go to check the boards again for an update. It's between 10-11.

I'm so proud. I managed to not cave in to my addiction until this very evening. (Okay, so Carol posted in the afternoon (my timezone), but still. I didn't check if she posted early, and I didn't go online as soon as she was supposed to post. Isn't it great?

Tell you what...
Here's what I'll do...
Right now, I run out of buffer middle of next week [Wednesday is the last of what I have written]. Depending on how much I get written today and tomorrow, I'll post late tomorrow night. If I can get AT LEAST two more chapters done - preferably three - I'll post tomorrow night. I'm about 1/3 done with 106 right now - if I can get AT LEAST 108 done, I'll go with as early as possible tomorrow and late tomorrow night.
How's that? Carol

Okay, it's late and my time-zone calc no longer works but it seems like you're saying I'm getting 4 posts sometime before Sunday evening. If you have time to finish 108. Sounds good. Sort of. As long as I know when I don't have to refresh for new posts. At least that way I can wrap up my own stuff. Michael PS: Did I ever mention your writing speed is awesome?

106 is done. If I can get 107 started tonight - a good chunk of it, I may make it tomorrow, but we'll have to see. Laundry is everywhere at the moment - clean but everywhere . Carol

Thanks, Tonya. Will be working on it this weekend. Carol, I'm sure everyone here will take a very basic version of the post. You know, something that wouldn't take more than 5 minutes, including the Flood-protection. What an annoying feature So anyway, big intros and stuff wouldn't be required if that's what takes to get the next fix. Michael

You know, Carol, it is sort of comforting to know that I won't get the next part till Monday morning, my time, thus leaving me Saturday and Sunday with without any new hands. At least that way I can do other things. IF I ever get my mind calmed down enough.

Actually, it's been easy to stay away from this fic (as much as I admire the talents of the writer). One word.
Children.
Tank (who thought that the gentle writers understood that we didn't need fics with Lois pregnant or with small children)

It's worse than that. Jimmy Olsen is considered a main character.

I don't know that I'd call Jimmy a *main* character - though he has been at times...
But you're right - this isn't really a Tank kinda fic...

Well, Carol, you cold get Lois a haircut to make Tank happy. And maybe offer a Tank Ending where you kill off the kids and Jimmy...

either this is some masterful editing or I need to start watching smallville again! Nice vid, Im not sure what unanswered prayers will be about but this is definetely what the end otoh looks like right now.
Will the posting of UP start right after the last post of OTOH or will there be a waiting period in between? I vote for no wait.

Hehe [and yes, I'm here this morning and going to post OTOH momentarily]. Probably a bit of a break, but by mid-Jan or so at the latest - thinking one chapter daily posts and about 35 chapters or so total - have 28 currently written, but need to add at least one more chapter in the 8-10 area. Some of the beginning needs some edits to reflect some of the things that changed in writing the end of OTOH [like Lana not being all that is pure evil]. As for the plot of UP - no one's even come CLOSE! [though I haven't watched the vid yet.] Carol
