Okay, now that Christmas is receding into the past and the new year is fast approaching, is there anything you would like your favourite authors to include on their list of new year's resolutions? If so, post 'em here! And here's mine: </font><ul type="square"> [*]Yvonne Connell: Now that you've finished Addicted, write Fear of Discovery V! . [*]Tank Wilson: that sequel to Protect and Serve would go down very nicely! . [*]Kaethel: how much longer are you going to keep us waiting for Near Wild Heaven II?!? . [*]Jo March, any chance of getting Snowflakes finished for Christmas 2004? . [*]Shayne Terry, please get back to Single White Kryptonian - you can't leave it unfinished for another year! . [*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Erin Klingler, you may be an almost-published author, but we were your fans first! Come back here and finish The Long Road Home! Anyone else care to add their wishlist to this thread? Wendy

I completely second Wendy! I'd like to see all what she mentioned already. I just like to add a few I'd love to see in 2004 as well. * Jana: where's that sequel to Love Remains? * Anna Belcher: how about that angsty alt-Clark story you've been telling me about for months already? * Pam: Make sure we get K, L, M and some other letters * Wendy: keep on writing so we won't have to suffer a lack of WendyFic - long, angsty full of whams will do just fine * Pel: It's really time you start posting that story of yours! I can't think of more right now, but to all authors, please keep writing! Saskia

* Pam: Make sure we get K, M, N and some other letters What, you don't want to see L? I have ideas for all those letters, but of course inspiration isn't worth squat without some perspiration in there somewhere. Still, they've been coming along nicely, so I expect I can do a few more. My wishlist... hmm... Kathy B -- M3 and WMBE. Or anything else you care to write, really Nan -- more of everything, please! Shayne -- get back here and finish SWK! You've left it in a very unsettled spot. Leela -- I'd love to see LST updated more frequently! Phil -- where's Imbalance? And there are more, I'm sure, but I'm on vacation and can't remember who else to nag! Oh, Pel -- I want more fanfic trailers! Especially of my stories, of course but they're all amazing. PJ who should be back home in approximately 24 hours...

Ooohhh, great idea!!
This will just be off the top of my head, and I'm almost certain to leave something out, but what's the edit button for?
1 Jude- I know you write only one a year and last one was September, but since I'm wishing I'd like the muse to seize you in January.
2- CC Malo- anything. Though from you I'd like to see one almost soley about Superman as you do such great things with him in your action sequences. His cape, the wind, etc... Lots of flying, please.
3- Labby- I'll take your grocery list, just please, please post it.
4- AnnieM- something cute and so Waffy that it melts me even while I pretend I don't read that sort of thing.
5- KathyB- M3, goshdarnit, nuff said.
6- Wendy- something slow, dark, and horrible with little or no introspection, just lots of talking. (I know! But you'd be brilliant at it!!) <<edit: yeah, but Wendy, what if Lois suffered from some sort of condition in which she couldn't stop thinking aloud? Imagine the complications.>>
7- LynnM- Wendy said something about trains, so ok, I'll take it. Actually, I've thought it over and I really like your married Lois and Clark, so I'd like them to be married on that train as well, ok?
8- Yvonne- Misery 2!! Pllleeeeeaasssee!! (And it's too soon, too ungrateful and too unkind to mention, but I wouldn't be adverse to Addiction 2)
9- Kathryn Ann Kent- don't know who you are or where you went, but loved your stuff. Why not make it three?
10- MissyG!- Do not think I have forgotten how badly you sucked me in to WLGTDWI? and then just walked away. Bad, Missy, bad, bad.
11- Nan- more on that 1/2 kryptonian baby, please....
You're sorry I got started, aren't you? I could wish all day. I'll stop at an even dozen.
12- Tank- I know you can do it, I've seen it. Something tender and romantic and yet still...you.
Wish, wish, wish...
CC
You mean we're supposed to have lives?
Oh crap!

You haven't read anything by me with lots and lots of talking... and you wouldn't want to! By the way, I'm seeing some of the writers being implored here posting their own wishlists. How about giving us an answer to our requests, hmmm? Wendy (who assures Sas that she definitely has some WIPs, but regretfully tells El that none of them is likely to be a nextgen. Sorry! )

You want to play that game? Fine! ), "R is for Ruins", "S is for Slaughter", "T is for Tempus" and so on!! Tracey - WHERE is Out of Contact?!?!? Kaethel
- I'm your partner. I'm your friend. - Is that what we are? - Oh, you know what? I don't know what we are. We kiss and then we never talk about it. We nearly die frozen in each other's arms, but we never talk about it, so no, I got no clue what we are.

Okay then: * Laura Davies - Innocence Lost!!!!! What happened to it??? * Wendy - write something long, angsty, and capturing. Anything shorter than Faux Pas won't be acceptable. (don't say I'm not reasonable ) * ML Thompson - Something else where Lois and Clark meet out of the country and full of misunderstandings, trouble, angst and pain. (use 'Cause and Effect' and 'Without Checking the Water Level' as examples) * Pam, Q is for Quadratic Equations (which in my book are a synonym for evil ) That's all I can think of right now, but don't think the rest of you can get away.
Mulder: Imagine if you could come back and take out five people who had caused you to suffer. Who would they be? Scully: I only get five? Mulder: I remembered your birthday this year, didn't I, Scully?

Rat slinks into the thread, looks over all the lists, reminds everyone who should know better that she's retired, endorses all other wishes as she'd like to see them too and firmly believes in 'do as I say, not as I do' so is allowed to nag even though she's retired (Jo, this means you! Snowflakes! Snowflakes! Snowflakes!)...and then slinks out again... Seriously, thank you for being interested in nagging - I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, it's not likely any of those mentioned will see the light of day. Especially SDB, which is three quarters written but which I hate with a vengeance. <g> CC - ROTFL. Oh, don't tempt me. I'm not really missing writing at the moment, but am missing that dialogue with readers which is so much fun. So I keep threatening to post the phone book, just to get fdk. LabRat (anticipating that many wishes will come true and looking forward to another year of great fanfic...)

I can only say to all the gentle writers... keep 'em coming.
I don't understand Kaethel's remark about 'keeping Lois' hair safe'. How is a haircut a danger? Something that improves Lois' looks can only be considered a good thing, right?

Um... /me slinks in, following Rat’s footsteps (except the part where she yells at me [g]) Wendy, thanks for mentioning Snowflakes! And I suppose I deserve the dig about Christmas 2004. /me looks very, very sheepish. El, yeah, I know. And Kaethel: Hey!!! :p ~~~~~~~~~ [g] I know you all probably want to kill me right now, and I can’t say I’d blame you (but don’t lynch me yet! ) I have been very busy though, what with this being my last semester at university, starting my masters degree, and a few odd things... Most importantly, though, it’s been so long since I’ve written anything except the occasional essay that whatever I’m turning up makes me wince. I’m not happy with the way my writing is turning out; I guess I’ll need to write a few ‘recycle-bin’ stories before I try posting anything - I honestly don’t know how long that will be. I really appreciate the nag. (Also the lack of green paint ) JoMarch (adding ' finish Snowflakes in (preferably early) 2004 ' to the top of her New Year's resolutions list)

dangit. /me snaps her fingers. After so long without nagging, I though everybody'd forgotten about that. Actually, RL and a JAG diversion slowed me down. I'm currently working on chapter 2 of Innocence Lost, and I refuse to work on *anything* else until I finish it. 14 pages takes a little while to write... Laura (who figured that if Maria wasn't asking about it, probably nobody'd noticed) PS: Hey wonderful Index Crew--the name of the story is "Innocence Lost", not "Lost Innocence".

JoMarch (adding 'finish Snowflakes in (preferably early) 2004 ' to the top of her New Year's resolutions list) Jo, I think I see where you're going wrong here. Take it from an old procrastinating hand. What you say is "I promise faithfully to have this story done by year end." Just never say which year and they can't touch you. Alternatively, take Elena's advice. Tell everyone you're going to be writing tomorrow. Then when they ask you the next day say, "I said tomorrow, not today..." Repeat as often as necessary. Of course, having said this, if you take any of the above advice and we don't get Snowflakes by early 2004, I'll be booking a flight and ordering up a fresh two by four... LabRat

I have been very busy though, what with this being my last semester at university, starting my masters degree Hey, don't nag Jo too hard! I was in that same position in May, 2002. It is not easy to find time to write when you are finishing up a bachelor's degree and trying to start your master's degree. (now I am finished with my master's degree and trying to get a PhD -- what was I thinking? ) It's not going to get much easier, Jo . As for my New Years wishes . . . I am not picky. There are a lot of stories I would like to read, but I don't want to single anyone out or leave anyone out . I just want *more* stories to read. I have a couple of stories I would like to write in the next year, but I don't want to mention them for fear of getting nagged . . . I think there are only one or two people who know about them. - Laura

Pam - I want "K is for Kaethel", "L is for Lunatic", "M is for Mayhem", "N is for Naughty", "O is for Ordeal", "P is for Pain", "Q is for Quatastrophe" (sorry ), "R is for Ruins", "S is for Slaughter", "T is for Tempus" and so on!! ROFL! Oh, I *love* those! <g> Thanks for the other suggestions, too, rivka and Julie! I had been planning a happy episodic adventure/burgeoning romance kinda thing, but now I see I've been thinking about it all wrong! I may need a co-author, though. Tank? El? Anyone? PJ And, unless I think of anything more clever, K is for Knot Yet.

"knot yet"?! that's cheating! :p maybe we should start a thread, or at least a list. well, i'll just braistorm.. k is for... kryptonite kent kryptonian kansas knot-tieing kneeling (to propose) knighthood (or knight in shining armor) karats knowing/knowledge k is also for... krispy kreme potassium (never understood why, but check the periodic table...) kitchen knives kasha knishes kneading kellog's kiwis killer knocking kevlar kaethel kathy kaylle karl kowabunga! kudos! not to mention... kryptonian knights named kent knocked around by kaethel (armed with keen kyptonite knives) until he kneeled (in front of the krispy kreme) to propose knot-tieing with lois, who nearly keeled over when she saw the karatage. kooky potassium-eating paul EDIT don't want to completely hijack the thread (sorry i don't have any resolutions for you guys... for myself, it's "finally catch up on all that fic you missed this year and maybe even start commenting on stuff while you're doing so"), but i realized after i logged off last night that i forgot a couple of things... k is also for... key (it feels like there should be a word or phrase havinig to do with "key" that means an important person in one's life, but i can't think of what it is. all i can come up with is "keystone.") keep keeping keep away keeper (as in "___'s a keeper" and maybe but probably not also as in "jailer") (also, for the record, and in case anyone remembers those commercials, the pb in "pb max" doesn't stand for lead. )
When in doubt, think about penguins. It probably won't help, but at least it'll be fun.

For the same reason that gold is Au (aurum) and lead is Pb (plumbum). Those crazy Greeks (not you, Anna ) thought potassium was kalium. (Well, kind of -- the element wasn't known in elemental form until 1807. But the name kalium is Latin.) A ha! I knew kalium was Latin. I'm glad you threw that last thought in; I would have driven myself crazy connecting short-circuited wires in my head and thinking kalium was aGreek word. And ps, shh, Rivka LOL! Great idea! Just a few more who popped into my head as I was reading this... - Caroline McKenna - After Midnight! Haven't heard from you in ages...
- Nqoire - the Murder books! Dying to know what happens next...
- I know it's been mentioned before, but Pel... Once Upon a December, Pretty Woman, that ToGoM fic I swore never ever to talk about in public [oops ] and all those other WIPs you've been promising me lately, which I also promised never to tell anybody about And fanfic trailers too, of course!! You're such a talented bird, I'm sure that doing all of them won't be that much strain on you
- Saskia - you do know that I'm expecting more of Lost Without You in my mailbox soon, right?
- EDIT: Oops! How could I have forgotten? While I fully agree that Kaethel should write and post Near Wild Heaven II sooner rather than later, this is just a friendly little reminder that there is still one half of a rather important little challenge to be completed... I really should have set a deadline. Anyway... just a thought, as usual, Kae!
And, of course, ditto everybody else!!! Sara

Devillish? Me?? Where in the world did you get that idea, Pel? Since when is nagging for fantastic, amazing, unbelievable, incredible fic from a writer who can run rings around me devillish??? Okay, so a little confused... I have to nag Wendy now? No, only kidding - but seriously, I know perfectly well that my server is behaving right now, and I'm sure that Wendy wouldn't delay in sending stories to me [thanks for that third-party agreement thing, by the way, W!!!] and I've hit the download mail button twenty times in ten minutes... so why haven't I gotten anything yet? *tapping foot* Sara [who is sorry that her friend was sick but really feels she's been waaaaaaaaaay too patient about this, despite the real-life boulders that keep popping up restricting Pel-fic-and-trailers...]

I am terribly behind at reading... but there are three stories I've been waiting for ages:
- Symbolic Angel's 'Mission In Time' (I bet she won't appear, but, heck, I can still hope!)
- QotC's 'Guys, Gals and Guns' (It's SO MUCH FUN!!!)
- Caroline McKenna's 'After Midnight' (I was really loving that story!)
AnnaBtG. (complaining: 'Kalium ends in 'um'!! It's Latin!!!!!!!!! Not Greek!!!!!!!!! Don't blame Greeks!!!!!!!!!' - but she'll still admit that the name used in (modern, at least) Greek for potassium is 'kalio'.)
What we've got here is failure to communicate...

Getting caught up here after a week out of town. So much to read:) CC Aiken, it was very kind of you to include me on your list. my list: so many things - a story from each of my favourite authors; no really long stories that haven't been ruthlessly edited; a couple of quirky, funny fics; a sophisticated music video from Trenna; a story from at least one writer who hasn't posted anything in over a year; and a few good things for each and every FoLC:). cc malo

Hey Queen Nan---This one's easy, just tell me your last name so I can find you on the archive! I've heard such wonderful things about your writing, and I'd like to see for myself but I can't find you! She's Nan Smith. And yes, RUN and look her up! She has dozens of amazing stories. Some of them are in series - if you read the Dagger series, you'll want to read them in order, so maybe someone who has the full list in order to hand could post it for you. Wendy

You rang? I'm a huge Nan Smith fan, and often re-read the stories, so I've created the following list for my own use -- the archive crew are talking about getting these listed on the fanfic index pages, too. Anyway, here we are: >>Series Guide for Nan Smith's stories: Dagger Series: Dagger of the Mind Dagger's Edge Assassin's Dagger Doppelganger Blind Man's Bluff Countdown Priorities Vanishing Act Charade Heritage Unforeseen Consequences Christmas in Metropolis Daddy's Little Girl Suspicions **** Home Series: Home Home II: Beginnings Home III: Memories Home IV: Honeymoon Home 4A: A Valentine Vignette Home: A Christmas Story Home: On the Fourth Day of Christmas **** Mystery Getting to Know You Faces **** Four Days to Nightfall Teamwork Buried Secrets Hottest Team in Town (in progress) **** A Night at the Office Strange Relationships Best Laid Plans New Year's Eve **** Pheremone, More Likely << I'd tell you which ones are my favorites, except you don't really need to see that whole list again PJ

* Anna Belcher: how about that angsty alt-Clark story you've been telling me about for months already? SHHHHHHH!! No one is supposed to know I have a WIP... now I'll be expected to post it. but of course inspiration isn't worth squat without some perspiration in there somewhere. What?! Since when?! Well, at least now I've figured out why the story hasn't gotten any longer... ~Anna (who has been having trouble keeping up with two fandoms, going to Disneyland, graduating college, and applying to law school)

What?! Since when?! Well, at least now I've figured out why the story hasn't gotten any longer... Yeah, hands up all those who want one of those writing machines from Stephen King's Tommyknockers? The one that took the story out of your head while you slept and had it all neatly typed up by the time you woke up in the morning. LabRat (who's been asking for one of those for Christmas for years, but do they listen...? )

The one that took the story out of your head while you slept and had it all neatly typed up by the time you woke up in the morning. I havn't read anything by Stephen King yet- yes, I know, but don't send me to the guillotine yet- but now that I know that such a machine exists I definitely want one. My birthday is too far away, though... All the way in September.

LOL, I think there might just be a few people in the world who can claim they've never read a Stephen King book, so you're both in plenty of good company there and no need of guillotines or blushes! LabRat

Well, if it'll make you feel better, guys, I go far out of my way to *avoid* reading Stephen King! But so many of his books end up in movies that I end up learning some things about them anyway... Oh, well PJ who has a feeling that those writing machines had some sort of down-side, somewhere!

Well...only if you consider being taken over by a dead alien so that you suddenly become super inventive, get all your emotions leeched out of you and end up trying to kill your friends and destroy the planet as a drawback. But, hey, it'd be worth it, right? LabRat

I go far out of my way to *avoid* reading Stephen King! /me shudders Ditto! Definitely! And I did try to read a couple of 'em, years ago. They were so highly recommended by a friend who had some other similar SF interests. But they were just so-- so-- /me shudders some more

LOL. Well, I wouldn't call them SF. They're horror novels - designed to make you shudder! LabRat (thinking Rivka might be able to get her friend to pay for counselling under the Trades Description Act there. <bg>)

I agree -- and I don't LIKE "horror," generally. However. There are a couple SF authors who write "horror" that's sort of SF (and generally write SF&F) whose stuff I will read, and I was being persuaded that King's stuff was like that. Not ENOUGH like, it turns out!

Oddly enough, I don't read much Stephen King, because by the 3rd or 4th chapter, I'm *depressed*. I did read Tommyknockers, though. As nice as one of those typewriters would be, I wouldn't like everything that goes with it. And what if they started typing out my dreams? No, wait, that's a good thing.. I could make sense of them that way.
And ditto to all of the other resolutions. More stories, more stories, nag nag nag!

Somehow, I hadn't caught this thread until now... * Jana: where's that sequel to Love Remains? I'm working on it, Sas, I promise. Just ask Carol! O:-) (I know, nobody buys that angel icon anywhere near my name, especially you, Sas, but still...) I really am working on it. But I still have awhile to go before I'll be ready to start posting. Thank you for including me on your wish list though, I was honored. And yes, I am finally admitting that I am working on the Love Remains sequel. That must be progress, right? Now if my muse would only return... As for my list... lots more fanfic for the next year. That Shayne Terry would come back to writing, as well as any other long lost writers, that we will continue to be able to see wonderful trailers and videos, and at least a dozen TOGoM fics next year. (I wonder which episode Jana likes best.) And for all the great readers out there, that they each get to read lots of their respective type of fic. Jana

I don't believe in making new year's resolutions for the very simple reason that it is very depressing when I don't keep them! However, I do have good intentions... I'm not going to nag or plead with any authors. Instead, I'm going to nag or plead with myself. No, I'm not going to tell myself that I need to write. Rather I'm going to tell myself that I need to read! There is so much on the archive that I haven't even looked at that I feel I'm drowning in unread fic. In fact... authors, please don't write anything new for at least ten years. That way I might stand a chance of catching up. <ducks at all the rotten tomatoes that are undoubtedly sailing my way now! > Thanks, Elena -- yours is a lone voice crying in the wilderness -- for saying that you want more from me. No promises, mind. Chris

Actually, Chris, I'd love to see more of your stories. I'd just figured you were knee-deep in writing another of your masterpieces and would get back to us when you were ready. If you aren't, I'd like some more, please. <g>

My wishes for 2004 would include new fics from Sheila Harper, Carol Malo, and ML Thompson. I would really like to see Judith Tylke return to the fandom and post something new. And I wish Gerry Anklewicz would get inspired to finish those two great stories I know she has sitting on her hard drive. Thanks for the wish for me, CC. I had to laugh though. I write so deliberately and rewrite so much, that even if I started writing this minute, I still wouldn't have anything to post until September. I'm thinking, though, and waiting for the Muse to descend. Happy 2004 everyone! Jude

Wendy mentioned a possible sequel to To Protect and Serve (of course I had to pay her to mention it ), and that is a possibility, though it might become a long story and I'm not really partial to long stories at the moment. I did have the thought of pursuing the wrap-up sequel of Lois' Story and in so doing, finally finish off the Future's Series. But if the gentle readers aren't really interested, I can abandon that project and just delete the beginnings I've worked up. Then I could slip back into what I do best. Retirement. Hey! That sounds like a pretty good idea. Tank (who doesn't really feel the pressure to uphold the male end of fic writing anymore now that it's known how good Roger is)

I think most of my wishes have already been posted, but to give the authors more encouragement, I'm looking forward to a happy ending for Lois & Clark in Leela's Long Strange Trip; Finally, I was enjoying a well-written suspense story, After Midnight, when the author stopped posting abruptly. I hope she finishes the story (and finds Lucy safely ) in 2004, but I'm afraid that she may have left the fandom Snarla2

I'm still working on The Hottest Team in Town, however, things have been really chaotic over the holidays, so I'm way behind. Hopefully, after school starts again I'll be able to find more time to write. Have no fear, though, once I start a story, I *always* finish it. Also, just for those who have noted that a few threads from previous stories are still dangling, and don't look as if they're going to be resolved in this story -- they're right. There's going to have to be one more to tie up everything.

Maria: I assure you that you are going to get the sequel to Drifter, 'Landed', this yr for certain. It's already outlined out, I just have to sit down and let the words come. Or force them out at any rate Plus I second a lot of requests put out there

Tank,
I have it from Labrat that 'deleting' is not allowed in this fandom.
By all means, yes, finish your series! I have been visiting it at the archive and have almost caught up with you.
How's next week for part 1?
CC
Then again, I just had this horrible thought. I mean, you need to fix things for Lois, right? But...you're Tank...so...hmmmmm. Need an additional beta reader? Someone to bounce ideas for 'happy endings' off of??
You mean we're supposed to have lives?
Oh crap!
