In order to stimulate the A-Plots of our stories, how about we start a suggestive list of types of things Superman can do to "save the day"?

Although, he won't stop doing these things, my Clark would like to branch out to other kinds of rescues besides:

4. murders (attempted or otherwise)

4-b - gang violence
4-b-1 – drive-by
4-b-2 – gang on gang killing
4-c - murder for hire
4-d - murder of Lois, Jimmy, the Kents, or Perry
4-e - murder due to jealousy
4-e-1 - spouse or other romantic attachment

7-a-2 – stranger rape
7-a-3 – molestation
7-b – bar brawl
7-c – Lois defending her reputation (sanity, etc.) from Ralph
7-c-2 – Ralph defending himself from Lois

8. Clones related

9. Lois related
9-a - murder for hire (see 4-d)
9-b – accidental (wrong place / wrong time scenarios)
9-c - any of the other numbers associated with her vicinity
9-d - rescuing Lois (just everyday stuff) - laugh

14-b - giant asteroid (see 5-f)
14-c - Bureau 39 related (see 4-g)
14-d - Superman on Red Kryptonite

Okay, that should get us started.

I realize that with my sub-headings under some of these numbers we might not ever get to 100, let alone 25, but I thought we'd start out general and work towards specific. So, feel free to put a unique (or specific) rescue and /or crime idea, which you yourself don't want to use, under its own number.

Please, try not to list specific (unique) crimes / rescues that you've read about in someone else's fanfic (general ideas okay, though). Thank you.

Wow. That's a pretty comprehensive list.

15. Animal rescues
15-a - cat in a tree
15-b - pet caught in a fire (see 12)
15-c - lost pet
15-c - Animal attacking people (e.g., a tiger on a certain island)

16. Santa Claus/reindeer fill-in

17. Counterfeiters
Superman rescues the economy from a flood of fake money. (Yeah, OK. I'm stretching. As I said, your list was pretty comprehensive.)

18. Kidnappers
Clarification: For some bizarre reason, these kidnappers actually don't go after Lois. (See 9-d)

19. Hackers
19-a - Hackers intent on embezzling/stealing funds. (Note: The hackers are not intent on world domination. See 11-b)
19-b - Hackers intent on spreading propaganda against a government or a political organization.
19-c - Hacker who thinks telecommunications (especially television and the Internet) are ruining society and determines to save civilization by bringing all telecommunications to a halt.

That's what I can come up with for now.

psst, Virginia, I just realized that neither Myxy nor magic are on your list. Did that imp delete the relevant entry?

Joy,
Lynn

clap rotflol No, I just didn't think of it.

20. Magic Related

21. Medical Related

Feel free to add other sub-catagories under any of the topics already given. Yes, Lynn, I do realize some items can be listed under more than one crime heading.

Such as Nightfall is both a natural disaster and alien related. wink (Probably fire related by spitting an amnesiac Clark at us.)

22. Political intervention
- moderating peace talks
- crushing all weapons of two armies advancing on each other
- relocating nuclear missiles of all countries into the sun
- save the President from being killed/kidnapped/blackmailed
- fly for President

23. Space related
- saving a space program
- boosting a rocket
- save a space shuttle from burning up in Earth's atmosphere
- do some major repairs on a space station
- offer his tiny space ship (once he finds it, that is) to STAR Labs so they can figure out how it works. (Hyper light drive, anyone?)
- helping to colonize a new planet (far in the future, probably for Clark's descendants)
- mining for precious minerals on nearby asteroids

24. Environmental stuff
- oil spills
- clean up nuclear waste
- stopping the meltdown of a nuclear plant (imagine Clark in Fukushima)
- blowing cooling breath over the arctic to save polar bears
- messing with El Niño or La Niña to stop draughts and stuff from happening
- stopping draughts
- keeping the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Drift going despite global warming. (All he'd have to do is swimm a couple of hundred laps to keep the water moving...)

That's all I can think of right now. laugh

Forgot the most obvious:
28. Fighting Super Villains (and doing the badly needed reconstruction work afterwards)
- Mxylpltk (or however that one is spelled)
- Solomon Grundy. (Gruny smash!)
- Bizarro
- Darkseid (although that could also count as fighting an alien invasion...)
- the Green Kobold (Wait, that one belongs to Spiderman. Would still be cool.)

Okay, new category
29. Superhero-related
- Fighting/collaborating with Batman (and/or whoever else is out there)

Btw, I didn't include Lex Luthor because he isn't really set up to be a super-villain in LnC, more like an arch-villain. He doesn't have the Injustice League with him, does not try out another crazed invention every other week or... well, you get the idea.

33. Emergency electricity supply after brown outs / black outs.

To clarify - power stations need a lot of external power to go back on line after an outage, if that isn't available there are problems. Anecdotally, in a big blackout on the US east coast in the sixties all of the generators in the region crashed; the usual fix in an emergency was to ask MIT (I think) if they were running their own generator, which was a big beast used for very large experiments. In this case, unfortunately, it was also off-line. Eventually they got the system up and running again - by getting the batteries out of every car in the MIT car park and wiring them together to jump-start the MIT generator! Superman could possibly take care of things a little more quickly, by e.g. using heat vision to raise steam for turbines, spinning generators by hand, blowing a gale to turn wind turbines, etc.

Or just fly a few square miles of mylar mirror into space and use reflected sunlight to light up an area until things are fixed...
