Wow! The responses to the first HAC have been so great, that I've decided to start a second one. Thanks for the excellent responses/ficlettes, guys! hyper

Lois snatched the phone up the second it rang. "Hello?"

She gasped.

"Oh my god, it's you?!"

"What? No, no. Of course not. It's just that, um, well, you know..."

"Huh?"

"Oh. Well---wait, what?"

"Tonight?"

"You really---tonight??"

"Uh..."

"Sure!!"

"No, wait---!" she cried, but it was too late. She grimaced and put the phone back on its hook.

Lois snatched the phone up the second it rang. "Hello?"

‘Hello, Lover.’

She gasped.

"Oh my god, it's you?!"

‘Who else would it be? You haven’t given this number to anyone else have you? I specifically asked you not to.’

"What? No, no. Of course not. It's just that, um, well, you know..."

‘No I don’t. Why don’t you tell me.’ She could hear the leer in his voice.

"Huh?"

‘What it is that I’m supposed to know.’

"Oh. Well---wait, what?"

A snicker came over the line. ‘Never mind. I’ll pick you up at 8.’

"Tonight?"

‘Unless you have something better to do...'

"You really---tonight??"

‘Yes, tonight! Superman never lies.’

"Uh..."

‘See you at 7. And wear the burgundy.’

"Sure!!"

At 7?

‘Bye, Lois.’

"No, wait---!" she cried, but it was too late. She grimaced and put the phone back on its hook.

Ha! I was thinking that the conversation had a decidedly nficy sound to it. Good job! thumbsup

So is this pre or post revelation? Cause Superman saying, "Wear the burgundy" could totally give Clark away. <snickers>

Lois snatched the phone up the second it rang. "Hello?"

"Ms. Lane, I'm agent Dan Scardino with the IRS"

She gasped.

A chuckle, "We get that reaction all the time. Back on point. I've left you several messages over the last week, are you avoiding me?"

"Oh my god, it's you?!"

"I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in my messages but federal privacy regulations forbid us going into detail where a third party might overhear the message."

"I am a bit concerned between the way you dodged my call and the stress I hear in your voice now that we will find something unacceptable on your tax returns. Perhaps you've been a bit imprudent in reporting your expenses? Padded things a bit here and there?"

"What? No, no. Of course not. It's just that, um, well, you know..."

"Yes Ms. Lane I do know. Like the Shadow I know what evil lurks in the hearts of men, or in your case women!"

"Huh?"

Never mind Ms. Lane just a bit of IRS humor. In any case I need to meet and your accountant today.

"Oh. Well---wait, what?"

"Will 4:00 work? Or is 4:30 better?"

"Tonight?"

"Yes, Miss Lane, so 4:00?"

"You really---tonight??"

"Perhaps 4:30, bring your records"

"Uh..."

"Really Ms. Lane, if there is a problem with your return we can schedule a latter session, say 9:00 AM next Thursday? I can block off most of the day? However unless you've been lying to the US Government I don't think this matter will take more than and half hour to an hour. So 4:30?

"Sure!!"

"Very well Ms. Lane, I'll expect you and your accountant and your records in my office at 4:30 sharp.

"No, wait---!" she cried, but it was too late. She grimaced and put the phone back on its hook.

Clark nervously punched in the familiar numbers. She was at home grieving, with Perry, Jimmy and Henderson hovering around her like mother hens. She refused to see Superman. But he could not bear to see her so broken so lost. He had to tell her.

Lois snatched the phone up the second it rang. "Hello?"

"Lois, it's me... Clark. I'm not dead."

She gasped.

"I tried to see you before, tell you before, but you weren't alone. Lois it happened so fast. When Barrow shot me... I wish I was in tights and cape." Taking a deep breath Clark continued, "Superman's cape." A beat, then "my cape."

"Oh my god, it's you?!"

He interrupted before she could give him away. "Lois! Don't say anything. You aren't alone. Besides, I've to pretend to be *dead* to everyone else... at least until... you won't tell anyone?"

"What? No, no. Of course not. It's just that, um, well, you know..."

Clark knew she was bewildered and wanted to but could not voice her questions. "I'm so sorry. I wish I'd told you before Lois. But Superman is what I can do, Clark is who I am."

"Huh?"

"Uh, sorry! I don't know what to think. I would've been dead tonight were it not for... but I wanted you to know. I am still dead though unless... please Lois. I *have* to see you."

"Oh. Well---wait, what?"

"Meet me alone at eleven at Pier 33."

"Tonight?"

"Yes, I think if we can find Professor Hamilton, I could really come back."

"You really---tonight??"

"I hope so, but first we have to find him. And... while I'm confessing, I love you."

"Uh..."

Clark chuckled nervously. "See you later then."

"Sure!!"

"Thank you Lois! Remember now I am still *dead* and you're s'posed to be grief-stricken... bye!"

"No, wait---!" she cried, but it was too late. She grimaced and put the phone back on its hook. Really, she was overjoyed to have Clark back but, looking at the suspicious faces of her companions she had to come up with a good excuse and fast.

Uh, I should have probably polished it more, .. wave

If she had to move heaven and Earth, perhaps come back to haunt Perry and explain the story after they'd killed her, she would do it.

Very clever Anks.

And Framework - I love picturing Dan as an IRS agent and that could totally be true about her taxes... we all remember which ep was it...??? Vatman? Where he shredded all her stuff and she was like, those were my taxes. Heh.

Brilliant, AnKs...

and I'm not even a TOGM fan (only because I have never seen the first two seasons... not because I don't like them for what they are!)

Okay, I'll give it a try.

Lois snatched the phone up the second it rang. "Hello?"

"Lois, do you know who this is?"

She gasped.

"Oh my god, it's you?!"

"Yes, it's me. You do know that you missed your appointment this afternoon, don't you? Were you planning on skipping it again?"

"What? No, no. Of course not. It's just that, um, well, you know..."

"I know how busy you get and how often you forget little things like appointments. But I think I can help you this time."

"Huh?"

"You're in luck. I happen to be staying open late so you won't have to miss your normal appointment."

"Oh. Well---wait, what?"

"I'm staying late tonight so you can come in when you are through at work."

"Tonight?"

"Yes, tonight."

"You really---tonight??"

"Lois, I'm your friend, it's the least I can do.

"Uh..."

"Lois, tell me you'll be here tonight."

"Sure!!"

"Good, I'll expect you around eight. Oh, and I think it's time we stopped this two inch trim nonsense everytime. Tonight we're going for the big chop. Ciao, Lois, I'll see you tonight."

"No, wait---!" she cried, but it was too late. She grimaced and put the phone back on its hook.
