I get it, Michael. She didn't want Clark to do something that HE would regret later. She wanted him to be treated with as much respect as he treated her. However, she knows how aggressive that she was and doesn't want to be treated with that level of aggression--it could hurt. And it would kill him when he came to his senses.
BTW, I don't think it's a secret hiding place. Our attic access is behind a door in the closet, too--but of course the door is in the ceiling.
