I also immediately thought "pornographic picture" when I saw "hardcore." In the context of a picture, I thought hardcore = porn. In the context of saying "that person's really hardcore about BME," I'd mean they are really dedicated. So I'm fairly young (well, not that young, 24), and I immediately thought porn, too.
