The role of Penny was originally going to be played by Melissa Joan Hart (who played the title roles in "Clarissa Explains It All" and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch") but she was unavailable when the shooting was scheduled. So they hired Kristanna Loken, who was Justin Whalin's then-girlfriend. Believe it or not, she was only 17 at the time! Kathy
