Here's a question I haven't been able to solve using the various grammar-sites out there.

When you're using a term of endearment in direct speech, is it upper case or lower case. Some sources claim it should be lowercase unless it's an actual nickname, others... don't.

So, does anyone know the hard facts and rules behind this conundrum? huh
