I went on a search through the eps when I wrote The Portrait. I was surprised to find how few episodes Ralph was actually in. He was mentioned frequently, but didn't appear in the flesh that often. He was never identified with a last name, so like everyone else, I made one up. I wanted to call him Ralph Rankle, but Gerry smacked me on the hand and said it was too obvious, so I settled for Ralph Potter, which I thought desribed him almost as well as Rankle.
