LITTLE TONY Hey -- you sure this is the same Woody Samms? I don't remember him bein' this tough -- MUG I dunno, boss. He's just takin' it. LITTLE TONY I think it's time to call in the Doctor... Little Tony considers that, then -- LITTLE TONY (calls) Doc! Doc, the sadistic torturer, appears, wheeling his covered medical cart. Little Tony slips on his coat. LITTLE TONY He's all yours -- Doc yanks a drape off his medical cart, several sharp instruments glistening there. Clark In Woody's Body lifts his head, gets an eyeful of it. Doc picks up his blow torch -- IGNITES it, looks with fascination at the blue flame... Clark reacts to that. WE SEE his hands working behind his back, trying to loosen his ropes... he's actually getting some play in them. Doc moves forward, blow torch in hand. Closer, closer... Just as he get close enough to bite -- Clark rockets upward. The two men's heads come together like billiard balls. Doc flies backward, crashing into a huge drum of cleaning solvent, knocking it over. The flammable liquid spills onto the floor. 66A DOC'S HAND 66A falls into the puddle, dropping the lit blowtorch there. It IGNITES instantly... FIRE ERUPTS. The FLAMES drive Doc back. He escapes through the door. They each shut their eyes, experiencing this... 78 CLOSE - SUPERMAN 78 he opens his eyes... we RECOGNIZE the light behind them. He looks to his tiny wound... IT HEALS magically. 79 WOODY 79 opens his eyes, weak. 80 WIDER 80 Superman, back in his own body, looks at Woody. Reacts to the SOUND of the nearby GOONS. Woody hears that too... WOODY Forget about that -- please, save my daughter... Superman BLURS into the fire, as... 81 LITTLE TONY 81 approaches,- pulls his gun, as... 82 INT. WAREHOUSE - BECKY 82 coughs, tries to scream but the smoke and heat are too much. Suddenly, a FIGURE emerges through all that -- Superman! He gathers the girl up, shields her, and then... 83 EXT. WAREHOUSE - SUPERMAN 83 deposits Becky safely outside the burning building. SUPERMAN You okay -- ? Before she can answer, the SOUND of a GUNSHOT. It's your father. She breaks away, runs toward her downed father. Superman BLURS, and now LITTLE TONY and his GOONS find themselves neatly tied up, just blinking. Becky arrives at her father's side... BECKY Daddy... WOODY Becky... sweetheart, I'm so sorry... 86 CLARK KENT 86 appears, steps up behind her. Becky looks through her tears at her dying father, to Clark, who is back in his own body. CLARK Your father was the one who got Superman here, Becky. And when your father realized I was in danger, too, he saved me by giving me back my own body... and took the danger on himself. Becky looks at her father. He's weakening... she cradles him, leans down, kisses him... BECKY I'm proud of you, Daddy... He reaches out to it, his hand GLOWING as he holds the Zelig Stone. He touches it to the dog... The dog grows still, very still. BECKY Please, Daddy... don't leave me... Woody's eyes finally close. Clark puts an arm around Becky as she whispers goodbye to him... Suddenly, the dog's eyes pop open! It jumps to its feet. Little Tony, who is being carted away by UNIFORMED POLICE with his goons, passes by. LITTLE TONY Pepino! Come to daddy, baby! But instead of hopping to the man's arms, it just GROWLS at him, YIPS ominously, then scurries over to the grieving Becky. It licks the tears from her cheeks... Clark steps back, allowing them their moment, and understanding. DISSOLVE TO: 88 INT. TOWN HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT - LOIS 88(X) anxiously watches a news report of the fire at the abandoned warehouse. She sees FOOTAGE of Woody's body being loaded onto a stretcher. ANNOUNCER ... amazingly, only one fatality was suffered in the blaze. The victim has been identified as Woody Samms, forty five, of Metropolis... Lois lightly touches the screen, and the image of Woody's body on the stretcher. She gazes at it, uncertain, worried... LOIS Clark...? Also ON SCREEN, nearby Becky holds a sweetly behaving dog. Lois reacts now as a PAIR OF HANDS cover her eyes. CLARK Guess who -- ? She turns to him, kisses him.
